General

  • Friendly and simple site steps from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Above dog-friendly Caerfai beach a mile from St Davids
  • Well-kept amenities and dog friendly

Sunsets over the sea and the spectacular Pembrokeshire coast… simply stunning. If you like the sound of that, you’ll most likely love a stay at St Davids Farm Camping, a simple site a mile from Britain’s smallest city.

This peaceful place prides itself on a friendly and relaxed atmosphere – the four fields here are part of a working farm where you’re welcome to pick your own pitch. No need to fight for the best spots either, for all fields are treated to those spectacular views over St Brides Bay and equally easy access to the coast.

There’s plenty of space for kids to play games around the site, and dogs are welcome, both here and on Caerfai beach a leisurely 10-minute amble away. Walks are a top pick in the area around the site, with the Pembrokeshire Coast Path just a few minutes away.

The site's basic amenities include well-kept gents’ and ladies’ toilets and showers; standpipes for drinking water, and picnic benches. There are plenty of places to retreat to for eats and drinks in St Davids.

The fields are massive and not cramped, you can pitch anywhere and you have stunning views of the peninsula, sunsets also the stars at night are fantastic. The campsite is a 15 minute walk into the city which isn't too bad. The toilet block provides free hot water with enough showers for all (when I was there).

Wonderful views, plenty of space and free use of picnic benches and chance to have controlled fires. Good support available from owners if required day or night.

    Disliked:

The showers and toilets are fine but depending on where you camp could be a bit of a walk. With hindsight would have pitched up in a more sheltered part of the sight- some parts are very exposed( but with beautiful views)

The owner of this site, Rob, was extremely friendly and welcoming when I arrived. He pointed out his phone number on the welcome sheet and told me I could ring him at any time if there was any problem whatsoever.
As it happened, the next morning I found that my car battery was as flat as the proverbial (due to leaving the ignition switched on overnight to charge my phone) and so I rang Rob to ask for a jump start. It was a Saturday morning so he was busy with checking people out, but within an hour he turned up at my pitch driving a tractor and with some heavy duty jump leads. When they didn't do the job he went off to get a file to remove the rust and get a good connection.
Unfortunately my battery remained moribund, but nevertheless, what an amazing service by Rob, with the utmost politeness.
The site itself was very level, the toilets, showers and wash-up facilities excellent with plenty of hot water, clean and well looked after.
The three fields were enormous but I understand that Rob has a strict limit to how many campers are permitted at any one time.

Local attractions

Make for Caerfai beach first for a sheltered setting, colourful cliffs and birdwathing for species such as choughs, fulmars, peregrine falcons and gannets from the huge colony on nearby Grassholm Island. Surfing, kayaking, coasteering, climbing and boat trips are all easily arranged around the bay and coast too: drop into the surf school at St Davids or ask farm owners Christine and Robert for info and tips.

After some time at the beach, stroll along to spectacular St Davids centre a mile from the site, for its stunning cathedral, rightly hailed as a must-see, along with the medieval Bishops Palace and a good selection of restaurants, cafés, pubs, gift shops and galleries. Call in too to the Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre to delve into the history of the city and investiage attractions and activities nearby.

If you're up for a coastal hike (you really should around these parts), take the Pembrokeshire Coast Path from Oriel y Parc to Whitesands Bay or St Justinians; for boat trips and nature spotting, sail off from St Davids Peninsula around Ramsey and Grassholm islands to spy seabirds, porpoises and dolphins, as well as those thousands of Grassholm gannets.
