General

  • Scenic site overlooking St Brides Bay
  • A working farm set in open countryside
  • Coarse fishing lake within easy driving distance

Plenty of mighty purty places are in Pembrokeshire. And one of the county's purtiest is St Brides Bay, the mouth of water and coast from Skomer to Ramsey islands – it's part of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and has a few Sites of Special Scientific Interest thrown in to boot.

Overlooking this purty lot is Nolton Cross Caravan Park, a mile and a half inland from the hamlet of Nolton Haven, and set in open countryside as part of a working farm.

The kids have plenty of space for ball games on site as well as a play area that's centrally situated to all areas so they can play safely and parents can have peace. A coarse fishing lake with views towards the Preseli Hills is about 500 metres from the park: we'd call this vista mighty purty too.

Really nice stay at Nolton this weekend. The caravan was really clean, bright and spacious and the staff on site were great. Felt like they were there if we needed them but they weren’t intrusive and just left us to enjoy the stay.

    Disliked:

It’s good that there is the option of WiFi on the site it’s just a bit too pricey.

This is a quiet, peaceful site ideally located for access via short drives to good beaches and town facilities. The site itself is quite basic with few facilities but the essentials are there all of which is reflected in the good value pricing. WI FI is available for a small charge but we did not make use of this facility so cannot comment further on this. Good level pitches and some wooden picnic benches available in the camping area. Although we had a fair bit of wet weather during our stay the ground was well drained and did not get muddy but the site is quite exposed so go prepared in wet or windy conditions. Good communication after booking and a friendly welcome. Good safe site for children.

    Disliked:

As others have commented, the toilet/shower block is a bit of a walk from the camping area which is fine in good weather but a bit of a trek on a wet windy night. The site was quiet while we were there so had no problem with access to showers and wash basins. However, as there were only 2 of each (in the ladies facilities) and because of the positioning of the washbasins really only usable by one person at a time this may cause a bit of a delay during busier times. The bin areas were overflowing at times so could probably do with more regular clearing. My main gripe was the fact that there was a faulty flickering light fitting in the toilet block above the washbasin area which is easily fixed also the block could have been cleaner. This is a cheaper site than some others in the area so don't go there expecting 5* facilities.

Had all the basics and was cheap to stay at. Short drive to Haverfordwest if you need supplies. Close to some lovely beaches. Toilets were fine and only a few minutes walk to from the tourer field.

    Disliked:

Nowhere to exercise dogs. The welcome leaflet says to keep dogs on lead and to ask for an appropriate area to exercise dogs. When I asked I was told there was nowhere.

Local attractions

We did say St Bride's Bay was mighty pretty – and it and Pembrokeshire have a mighty bit to do too.

The sandy beaches and watersports of Newgale, Broad Haven and Whitesands Bay are all within easy reach, as is the Pembrokeshire Coast Path (a coastal bus runs daily in summer for those who don't want to walk).

Skomer, Ramsey and Caldy islands are a bit of a must if you're in this part of the world: reach Ramsey from St Davids, Caldy from Tenby, and Skomer from Dale and Martins Haven.

Also nearby are St Davids Cathedral and the Bishops Palace, Oakwood Leisure Park, Folly Farm and the country parks of Llysyfran and Scolton Manor. Horse riding, surfing and fishing are all available within three miles.

Must see

  • St Davids Cathedral (9.0 miles)
  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (10.0 miles)
  • Pembroke Castle (11.8 miles)

National Trust

  • St David's Visitor Centre and Shop (9.1 miles)
