General

  • Small, peaceful and sheltered site near Milford Haven
  • Among spectacular scenery a hike or short drive from the beach
  • Two and a half miles from the ferry point for Skomer Island

In search of a serene sojourn in south Wales? Check out Foxdale Campsite near Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire: this small site is surrounded by splendid scenery, and the pitches are fully sheltered from the breezes that occasionally buffet the nearby coast.

There are some fab hikes around here (particularly for those who choose to treat their boots to a jaunt on the always-scenic Pembrokeshire Coast Path), and some equally excellent options for other ways to see this cracking stretch of coastline: might you be tempted by wildlife-watching boat trips, windsurfing days, surf lessons or galloping through the shallows on horseback perhaps?

Such levels of activity aren’t compulsory, of course (cue sigh of relief from folks seeking flop time). The marvellous Marloes Sands is a mere mile and a half away for easy beach days – the place is so pretty it’s even earned itself a role in a Hollywood film (part of Snow White and the Huntsman was filmed here in 2011).

Whether you’re planning a high level of activity or as little as possible, the friendly folks will happily make up packed lunches to feed your outings. Stick closer to base for snacks from the on-site shop and café, supplies from the village shop or meals at the pub a short stroll away.

Essential amenities are all sorted on site: showers and toilets (with handy extras like hairdryers), laundry facilities, a fridge-freezer and a washing-up area.

We loved our stay at Foxdale campsite. The facilities were extremely clean , plenty of toilets and showers. The showers were spotless! (even the shower curtains as this often lets cleanliness down. Highly recommend. lovely mown lawn. The location of the campsite is perfect as a stop off point for further exploring. The local pub (the lobster pot) plays live music on Fridays open mic nights-very local feel. The clocktower is a great café for breakfast. Staff very friendly.

    The use of their table

    Disliked:

Notices everywhere at every turn none of them polite or courteous all just highlighting campers as destructive unclean people!
The courtesy ended with a thank you when I paid online.
From stepping out of my car ( into a designated space) the owners were not welcoming but outwardly rude.
The managers in an attempt to placate said they’d both got out of the wrong side of bed and inferred they were selling.
If this is the case wait ! Maybe it will improve. There were notices as mentioned everywhere it felt like you were camping in someone’s back garden that didn’t like visitors.
The beach was a bit of a walk the distance not a problem but a narrow lane with a lot of traffic.
In truth the whole village was a bit odd including the local pub and corner shop. Pleasantries would have been nice but it actually felt like you were an inconvenience.
    Notes for next time:
Don’t be rude and ask for directions to the beach use your phone.
Don’t ask if your starter could arrive with your main it then comes as dessert.

From the manager...

Hello Oh I don't think you liked us most people do never mind perhaps you will find something nearer to your taste next time. This is how villages are maybe you have never lived in one I must admit I am not so keen on towns so each to its own.
The notices are 6 altogether and all very sensible don't you think not everyone likes dogs in the facilities as some have allergies happy days.
Not my fault about the pub or shop!!!

Lovely clean site with super, friendly site wardens, Dave & Trudy, for whom nothing was too much trouble. We hadn’t taken our blocks so Dave quite happily lent us theirs. The site is beautifully mown and maintained. There are just three toilets (unisex) for the campsite and they are a little dated and small but perfectly adequate for our needs. Three free showers and a wash room. Two sinks for washing up and always hot water. There is a barn area for hanging wetsuits, a tall fridge and chest freezer. All in all we had a fab time in Marloes and surrounds and plan on returning next year.

Local attractions

Most people come here to get away from it all, so the main focus is on the beautiful natural attractions of the Marloes Peninsula.

The local beach for Foxdale Campsite – an energetic walk or a very short drive away – is clean, uncrowded Marloes Sands, a huge expanse of beach at low tide, with rockpools and unusual cliff formations for added drama.

Hop on a boat at nearby Martin’s Haven for the 15-minute crossing to Skomer Island, bliss for birdwatchers: as well as cormorants, razorbills and many other sea birds, between April and August the island plays home to a sizeable puffin colony.

Skomer is also a good place to see grey seals, although you can often spot them from dry land as well, during the short walk around the cliff tops at Martin’s Haven Deer Park (no deer, but spectacular wildflowers and sea views).

For active types, there are many more fab walks along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, as well as golf, sailing, windsurfing, sea fishing and pony trekking nearby.

Must see

  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (11.0 miles)
  • St Davids Cathedral (11.0 miles)
  • Pembroke Castle (12.3 miles)

  • St David's Visitor Centre and Shop (10.8 miles)
  • Stackpole Estate (13.6 miles)
