  • Peaceful sea-view glamping at Anglesey's Carreglwyd Estate
  • A 20-minute drive from Holyhead; Porth Trwyn beach 25 minutes' walk
  • Meals available on site, plus activities for all ages
Cosy up at Canvas Hamlet, Anglesey for a glamping stay that mixes up coast, countryside and comfy bell tents – all within the smart surrounds of the Carreglwyd Estate. There’s been a mansion at this spot on the northern end of Anglesey since 1634, and you can certainly see why one would pick this location – it’s a gorgeously remote place (although these days easily accessed from the A5025), with views out to sea and Porth Trwyn beach only about a 20/25-minute walk away. That setting means quiet coastal time aplenty if that’s what you’re after – although there’s activity on hand if you want it, in the form of yoga, football, volleyball, table tennis and trampolines on site. This being proper countryside too, there’s also den building for the smaller guests and a choice of wild walks to follow too (plus a silent disco by night… so you can have a party without disturbing the wildlife or other peace-seeking guests). The outdoor activities don’t end there – venture off site for bookable pursuits including surfing, sailing, climbing, kayaking, coasteering, archery, even a bit of axe throwing… And if that all sounds a bit much, there are plenty of peaceful paths to stroll along instead. Whatever you plump for, pick up barbecue supplies in Holyhead (20 minutes’ drive) or plan dinner on site – there will be different caterers on site throughout the season, so you should have plenty of choice. Once you've dined, settle in for slumbers in your luxury bell tent – each tent has a proper bed with memory foam mattress, a carpeted floor and a collection of fairy lights and battery lamps for a cosy night in.

Local attractions

Explore a bit more of the island’s history at Swtan Heritage Museum (10 minutes’ drive), then set off to see the remnants of the area’s mining past amid colourful landscapes at Parys Mountain (25 minutes). The old windmill and round houses at Melin Llynon (10 minutes) and the stone hut circle at Holyhead Mountain (half an hour) also make good stops for those with an interest in heritage. For top seaside views instead, set off to South Stack lighthouse (half an hour), Benllech beach (35 minutes) or Llanddwyn Island (50 minutes), where an old chapel is dedicated to the Welsh patron saint of lovers. To cross off some more of Anglesey’s top sights, head back towards the main land to visit Plan Cadnant Hidden Gardens (35 minutes) and Beaumaris Castle (40 minutes), then have your pic snapped by the UK’s longest station name sign at Llanfairpwllgwyngyll (half an hour).
