General

  • Spectacularly scenic rural site just outside Snowdonia National Park
  • A basecamp for adventures such as hiking, biking and wild swimming
  • Huge 1,600-metre karting circuit; café serving snacks and coffee

Adventure ahoy: Adventure Basecamp Wales is a scenic wild camping site in a peaceful rural location just outside Snowdonia National Park, with easy access to outdoor activities of all sorts. If you're into karting, zoom to here sharpish: with one of the UK's largest Motor Sports Association-approved karting circuits, this is quite possibly going to be the park of all your petrol-themed dreams…

Apart from the world-class karting, there are plenty more reasons to stick around here for quite some time: the site lays on e-bike, mountain bike and hiking adventures, with several wild biking trails and a whole heap of walking trails straight from base. If that sounds too strenuous, there are several lakes in the local area to laze around at, and the site is in a Dark Sky Reserve for idling after dark.

In between all that, Adventure Basecamp Wales guests have enthused about the team's excellent and friendly customer service and the utterly handsome views from the site. Another thing that gets a rave review here is the food: fresh bean coffee is served to keep you fuelled throughout your stay, alongside breakfast and lunch bites and homemade sugary treats.

The team highly recommends that you venture out to sample local Welsh products too, including Welsh meat, cheese, wine and local honey. There are plenty of farm shops and country pubs that your cordial hosts will be more than happy to point you towards.

Among the amenities are a sparklingly clean toilets and hot showers; free wifi is available in the main building.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Members of staff are very friendly and informative, grounds are lovely and clean, you can chose where you want to camp which was nice, we had loads of choice! Would definitely recommend

    Disliked:

We did get a little confused if it was the right place, as most of it is advertised as the go carts, we drove past a few times thinking is this the right place, a clear sign for the camping would be great, but maybe that was just us being silly

As everyone else has said you couldn’t fault the staff, they were lovely and very helpful. Other campers seemed nice and we had a lot of space and found a pretty flat tent pitch on a clean field. Shortish drive to Snowdonia and some good mountain biking.

    Disliked:

It’s not super peaceful, the main road is quite close (but we had earplugs & slept brilliantly). They really need to sort out some recycling facilities / proper rubbish disposal as the overflowing skip behind the toilet block was grim. No washing up facilities wasn’t great but hopefully this will improve in future.

We arrived at reception and Gemma was exceptionally helpful, with recommending walks, pubs and activities as it was our first time in Wales. All the staff were so helpful and polite nothing was too much trouble! Would defiantly stay again! The tent pitch up was great lots of space. If your not great with the wind I’d recommend staying at the bottom of the hill. However the views were amazing. The 24hr toilets were okay and clean. The cafe was lovely. We didn’t end up using the shower facilities as we were out all day and didn’t get back till late. These close at 5pm but I think Gemma would open them later if needed. On the whole everyone was really friendly and helpful in general wherever we went. Had the best time! Thanks Gemma for all your recommendations it really made our holiday x

Not a bad campsite, but could improve on toilets and showers!08/28/2019

We liked the view all around us and we enjoyed visiting the surrounding area. The campsite provided a good base. Campers were respectful of each other. We did not experience any loudness at night.

The sky gets supper dark at night so you can really see the stars. It's beautiful!

The staff are very polite and helpful.

    Disliked:

I booked this campsite because it boasted clean toilets and showers. The main block does have clean toilets and showers, but they are a bit of a treck from the campsite and there is only one shower in each toilet block (male and female). Also, these are not 24h, they close in the evening. One evening, they even closed early. The 24h toilet block was not as clean as we had hoped, with a skip at the back for rubbish, so this was a disappointment.

You can hear the traffic at night (as well as cows and sheep) so bring earplugs!

    Ground quite sloppy

From the manager...

Thank you kindly for your review.

Our main Showers and Toilets are open from early hours till evening. We do apologise we can not leave the main building open 24 hours.

Our new planning for 24 hour showers and toilets has now been passed and approved. We are totally over the moon that we can now offer these new facilities. We appreciate all your support.

We hope to welcome you back onsite within the new year when development has been completed.

Take a wild swim in Wales’s wild natural lakes or try out the outdoor watersports on offer, from paddleboarding, canoeing and rafting to the world’s biggest inland wave lagoon at Surf Snowdonia. As well as natural glacier lakes, the region has acres' worth of natural forest with mountain bike trails.

More peacefully, the site is surrounded by pretty villages, such as Betws-y-Coed, 25 minutes' drive away: stop at Conwy Falls for a photo opp or try freefalling, plummeting, ziplining and swinging at ZipWorld Fforest treetop adventure park.

Right next to this are two underground attractions: Bounce Below, a trampoline park in the old slate caverns, and Go Below, where brave contenders journey through a mountain via a series of challenges ranging from ziplining through caverns to boating across a subterranean lake and abseiling down to the deepest point in the UK.
