Wild Meadow Camping: Grass pitches

General

  • Wildlife haven in the peaceful Ceredigion countryside
  • A 15-minute drive from New Quay and 20 from the National Wool Museum
  • Five minutes by car to a pub or post office; near the Wales Coast Path

As you wend your way along the coast of west Wales, make time to stop for a breather at this secluded rural spot. Wild Meadow Camping is a peaceful Ceredigion site at the end of a quiet country lane just under a mile from Plwmp, with pitches spread around a meadow that's been planted up with native plants and trees to create a proper wildlife haven.

This is the sort of place where you can watch red kites soar through the skies, see swallows swoop over the field and spot dragonflies hovering in the undergrowth. Foxes, badgers and rabbits are regular visitors too, and there's a little stream running through the site to top it all off.

The facilities are more than adequate on this small-scale site – you'll have access to two shower rooms, two separate toilets and a washing-up area, all of which are kept clean and are well-maintained. Barbecues can be had but must be lifted clear of the grass (it's best to have a chat about this with someone on site before you get cooking).

This area is popular with walkers, who often head for the Wales Coast Path (about 10 minutes' drive away). The pretty Teifi river also runs through nearby small towns like Llandysul and Newcastle Emlyn (both 15 minutes) if you fancy exploring the hinterland.

Please note

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

A charge of £1.00 ($1.42) applies for the use of the shower.

Bookings must not consist of more than 2 different households.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Units longer than 5 metres are not allowed.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Minimum spacing of 2 metres between pitches.

Beautiful, well kept, peaceful site in lovely countryside. Fantastic accomadation in the sherpherds hut which was spotlessly clean and well resourced as was the washrooms. Great location for biking and near some lovely beaches for kayaking and swimming. We extended our stay here as we liked it so much. Andy the host was really friendly and helpful.

Everything! My first time in a campervan. Andy and Lisa were welcoming and gave some top tips on walks, runs and sights to see. The showers are spotless and the whole site safe, secure and well kept. Yes they cost £1 but worth every penny.
It’s quiet and there’s plenty of room around each pitch so felt lovely and private.
It’s just over 4 miles to the beach from the site and took just under two and a half hours brisk walk.
Cycling is good. Down or up the A road then amble back on the B’s. Even I didn’t get lost!
    Coastal path views are amazing.
WiFi isn’t great but for me that was a bonus. It meant no working on holiday.. result!
The bar has been set high 😎
    I’ll be back!

The communication with the owners was exceptional, they sent a message as soon as I'd had booked to say they would be in touch shortly before our stay to give us directions and answer any questions.
The site was immaculate and extremely pretty. Our daughter loved the long grass with the pathways, the stream behind the shepherds hut and the woodland with it's little tree trunk seats.
The bunk beds in the hut were perfect for children and very exciting.
The hut was immaculately clean with great quality cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery. The beds and bedding were very comfortable.
The shower facilities were great and cleaned regularly.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially sitting outside on the picnic table and benches to eat our meals at the end of the day. It was so relaxing. It's a beautiful campsite.
Andy greeted us at the gate and gave us some great information regarding places to visit. He was very approachable and helpful. Thouroughly recommend this campsite.

Lovely intimate space with small number of pitches placed around a beautiful wildflower meadow. Tucked away in a peaceful valley but only minutes to beautiful coast. Andy the owner is very friendly, with a warm welcome when you arrive.

    Disliked:

Only a minor complaint but we found paying £1 for the shower a bit of a pain, especially as the temperature was quite variable. Also, watch out if you're camping under the trees at the top in pollen season as our tent was covered in sticky pollen by the end! Having said that, we'd definitely stay again, as it was a lovely site.

We had the most wonderful four days and nights here. The owner Andy was amazing – smiley, helpful & continually on site, cleaning and keeping an eye on things. The atmosphere was amazing, quiet & peaceful, the meadow itself was really pretty, backed by a beautiful clean and clear stream, and the shower & toilet facilities were excellent – always clean, worked brilliantly & just a short stroll from the cabin. The fisherman's cabin too contained all we could have needed, and the beds were extremely comfy! Our children slept like logs every night, and we had a thoroughly restful and enjoyable week, exploring the amazing sandy beaches all along Cardigan Bay. We'll definitely return!

Local attractions

For a chance to sail the ocean blue, make for New Quay (15 minutes' drive), where offshore angling trips can be booked at the harbour. Fisherfolk aren't the only ones who come here in search of mackerel – families of bottlenose dolphins can often be seen carving up the waves across Cardigan Bay. Back on land, New Quay Honey Farm (15 minutes) is worth dropping by if you've got a sweet tooth (curious kids can watch the bees busily making the wares behind a glass screen).

This being Wales, there are also several top-tier fortifications around, including the rugged ruins of Newcastle Emlyn Castle (15 minutes) and Cilgerran Castle (30 minutes) with its chunky towers. Cardigan Castle (30 minutes) is well worth visiting too; there's also an eight-mile circular walk connecting Cilgerran to Cardigan if you fancy ticking off both.

Those with an interest in fab Welsh fabrics, meanwhile, might want to pay a visit to the National Wool Museum (20 minutes), a nicely informative attraction that walks you through the machines, textiles and history with an array of hands-on displays. Sleeping bag not as warm as you thought? Pick up a cosy souvenir in the museum shop.
