  • Eight-acre smallholding in peaceful countryside
  • A 20-minute drive from Aberaeron and 30 from Aberystwyth
  • Spectacular views towards the Cambrian mountains

Find your way to Ffynnonwen Farm Wild Camping for peaceful stays in Welsh countryside – a mere glimpse at the pics showing the spectacular setting of this quiet eight-acre smallholding with stunning views towards the Cambrian mountains may well encourage you to get moving right away…

As well as an outstanding outlook, this park in a lush valley has paddock areas for pitching and picnics along with plenty of space to laze about or roam; dog-friendly nature trails and walks are in and around this farm full of wildflower meadows, beech trees and a natural spring to wander around.

If lots of ambling is planned, aim for Llyn Eiddwen lake and Site of Special Scientific Interest, a pretty place for a stroll beside the rare local water and plant life and around half an hour on foot from Ffynonnwen. Local village Bontnewydd is also accessible on a walk as it’s about 25 minutes away (or five minutes’ drive if you’re feeling a little lazy).

Mosey on back to the park and make the most of the views by stoking up the barbecue – if it’s chilly, campfires are allowed on site as well. A supermarket in Lampeter is within half an hour’s drive, or stop by at Blaencamel Organic Farm (20 minutes’ drive) on your way to a local beach like Aberaeron with its pretty fishing village (around the same distance).

Charging facilities and chemical disposal are available at Ffynonnwen Farm Wild Camping.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, 12/31/2021.

no water supply had to use bottled water , only one toilet to use in the farmhouse itself could not use after 10pm , not much to do anywhere near the campsite at all , nowhere to wash dishes so take a bowl

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. We were a little surprised to receive this rating after we had chatted many times and you seemed to be enjoying it. You were clearly expecting facilities which we just do not provide nor do we advertise as such on our page. However to answer your points directly 1. water is provided as much as you require and you were informed of that on arrival and in the welcome pack. 2. The shower and toilet facilities are additional extras that we are NOT obliged to provide you with but choose to do so along with a Compost Toilet which was directly next to your pitch and again was pointed out to you upon arrival. We DO NOT provide washroom facilities. This is a 'Wild Camping' site and as such is 'pitch only'. Campers are advised that before booking they carefully read the booking page and list of facilities provided and if not sure are advised to contact us to discuss their needs and suitability. 3. Abersythwyth a vibrant and busy town is no more than 25 min away so was a little surprised to hear that you felt there was nothing around here to do. Aberaeron which is also a famous tourist spot is less than 20 mins drive and again there are plenty of activities to do in both of these locations as there are in plenty of others within our area.

Once again thank you for taking the time to respond but sorry that things clearly didn't work for you this time.

Beautiful location on a well-kept working farm. The owners are very friendly and accommodating with fresh eggs for sale in the mornings and the toilet/shower facilities are very clean and an extension to the farmhouse so warm and dry! Easy access to aberaeron and aberystwyth from the farm.

    Disliked:

The directions on the booking confirmation where is says 'keep right, don't turn right..' when you're almost there are difficult to follow when driving alone as the sat nav will try to take you right on to a single track lane to a farm 5mins away. If you don't know that's the right not to take and do end up there, come back on yourself until you reach that t junction you came up on, turn right and follow the road a couple of minutes down.

From the manager...

Thank you for your honest comments. These were appreciated. I would just like to say that in so far as directions to us are concerned, we have provided multiple locators including a post code which must be remembered as being generic only, what3 words which is far more accurate and most accurate of all a OS Map Grid Ref which will bring you directly to the farm. We would strongly recommend that campers do a google search and/or map locator search before setting off to us. I have also said on our web site that I am quite happy to explain the best route to travel to us if you call us before setting off and/or are near to the farm or area.

Thank you again and look forward to seeing you again soon.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. We do try to provide the little extras that make a camping experience just that little bit more memorable. The picture provided was beautiful so thank you for that. Again we have taken on board the comments regarding shower/toilet facilities. We currently provide an additional composting toilet but in time will consider additional facilities as we grow. We would love to see you again in the near future.

We stayed one night Ffynnonwen wild camping farm and it was fantastic.

The campsite itself is very remotely located and is accessed through a series of solemnly used roads. I will admit finding the place was a little difficult, after a series of wrong turns we finally spotted some motorhomes peeking behind the hills. However this was part of the fun, it was almost a little adventure of itself.

On arrival the owners greeted me by name with I found very nice as they had taken the time to look at who was actually coming. The owners themselves make a great deal of difference to the whole experience and they are just wonderful people. I can honestly say I don't remember the last time I've had hospitality like I had here .

The farm is still a working smallholding / farm and there are sheep running around (fair warn they are inquisitive). There are a few more animals too. However it does add to the atmosphere. The site is very large and sort of operates a pitch up anywhere within reason policy. Fires are allowed and the owners did explain if possible use the original fire circles and keep it under control. We didn't find this a problem as the original circles are in abundance.

The site is far enough away from any town to have no light pollution and makes for a fantastic nights sky view. The following morning was even better with clear views of the hills all around.

All in all this site has stuck to it's guns offering a semi wild camping experience. The site is quite and peaceful with lovely owners and a free spirited vibe.

    Disliked:

I personally found the price of taking a dog expensive.

From the manager...

Thank you so much for an honest and detailed review. We are glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet of our farm and site. The night views are something up here and we recommend every guest experiences them. We are proud of our 'authentic wild camping' heritage and gold that you recognised that. We have taken on board your comment about the cost of a dog and will in due course review that for the new season. Thank you again and we hope we see you again in the near future.

Ffynonnwen Farm is within easy reach of the Llŷn Peninsula and Ceredigion seaside as well as the watersports at Aberystwyth half an hour’s drive away. In fact, a whole of host of beaches can be visited in this part of Wales, including busier New Quay and the slightly quieter Tan Y Bwlch, both about half an hour’s drive away.

Borth beach takes 50 minutes to reach, and it's 40 minutes to Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre – where you might spot some of the dolphins who regularly make an appearance on these shores…

For a cultural detour inland, head to the National Trust’s 18th-century estate of Llanerchaeron with its walled garden and ornamental lake (25-minute drive) then make your way towards the riverside woodlands encircling the manor house (or shop for local farm produce at the on-site store).

Go north towards the dunes of Ynyslas (55 minutes up the coast) for a change of scenery and swing by the colourful cottages and pleasure pier of Aberystwyth as a scenic stopoff point along the way.
