  • Peaceful holiday park in the Angus Glens, 10 minutes' drive from Alyth
  • A 40-minute drive from the museums and attractions of Dundee
  • Pond, play area, 20 acres of woodland and excellently-kept amenities
You'll have an idea or three why this fab Scottish site is so popular even before you book. Your upcoming excellent location first: Perthshire's Nethercraig Holiday Park is in the stunning Angus Glens, within half an hour of Dundee and Blairgowie, and only a mile from spectacular strolls and first-rate birdwatching at Loch of Lintrathen. If you care to stretch your legs still futher, it's a 10-minute drive from the park to the small town of Alyth, which is on the 65-mile circular Cateran Trail through Perthshire and the Angus Glens; you might have an idea or three that the scenery around here is pretty stunning too... You don't have to leave the grounds for yet more handsome hikes, as Nethercraig includes 20 acres of woodland where the helpful site owners have marked out a trail for wandering and dog walking. And if you prefer sitting in dreamy contemplation rather than crashing about the countryside, take yourself off to the large pond for peaceful times by the water – the kids have a playground and a football field to keep them nicely occupied. Previous guests have given plaudits aplenty about Nethercraig's handy setting, friendly approach, spotless amenities and thoughtful layout, where the accommodation areas are among hedges and trees to maximise seclusion and a sense of space. The toilet block is centrally set and has toilets, hot showers, accessible facilities, baby changing, a washing-up area and a launderette. Nethercraig has a small shop and a smart barbecue hut to aid fuelling up; for more supplies, a butcher, pubs, cafés and takeaways are in Alyth. If you're here for golf (it's Scotland, after all), sort your swing right on site at the golf practice net, before a speedy drive to Strathmore Golf Centre six miles away to show off your new moves.

Local attractions

Summer songbirds and winter wildfowl flock around the reservoir of Loch of Lintrathen a mile away, a pretty place for wanders as well as wildlife watching. The loch has two hides, one of which (on the east shore) is wheelchair accessible. History and heritage are also within sightseeing reach: famed Glamis Castle (yes, the Macbeth one) is 25 minutes' drive away , Scone Palace within 45 minutes, and Discovery Point, the maritime museum telling the tale of Scott's Antarctic research ship, within 40. There's also the 19th-century stately home at Camperdown Country Park (35 minutes), part of a 400-acre estate also home to a wildlife park and an 18-hole golf course. Kids should like a potter around the Beatrix Potter Exhibition and Garden at Birnam 45 minutes away, while pursuits certainly for the grownups include Edradour Distillery and the Famous Grouse Experience, 55 minutes and an hour and a quarter away.
