Burton Springs: The motor-home and caravan field, with electric and hardstanding/grass

General

  • Peaceful site at the foot of the Quantock Hills
  • Three fishing lakes on site
  • A base for Cheddar, Glastonbury and the Exmoor and Somerset coast

Solo sorts, families, couples and most of all anglers… come and get sorted at serene and scenic Burton Springs, for a super stay in a Somerset wildlife haven.

This peaceful place is at the foot of the Quantock Hills and a nifty base for getting out around the Quantocks, the west Somerset and Exmoor coastline, and smashing Somerset settings like Cheddar Gorge and Glastonbury Abbey, both under 20 miles away.

And if your group are fisherfolk? Cast off on site in the three handsome and well-stocked lakes: there's one each of coarse fishing, carp fishing and cat fishing to keep all angling enthusiasts hooked. (Non-fisherfolk have plenty of wildlife to see, walks to wander and quiet spots in which to hide with a book or three.)

Burton Springs is well kept all round by its friendly family team, who've added a spankingly clean shower and washroom as well as a washing-up area for guests' use. There's also a games room for all ages, with table football and a dartboard, a selection of board games, DVDs and reading material, and a small play area in the pitching field with a small sandpit, two slides, two swings and a climbing frame.

Food and drinks are available to buy in the site shop.

Please note

Facilities/activities including fishing are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the park while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.

Loved the location. Hosts were great, plenty of hot showers.

    Disliked:

The path to the showers needed some attention, would benefit from a tarmac path?

From the manager...

Thank you for your review
As new owners, (only been here 8months) we are slowly doing improvements. The toilets/showers where top of our list and we are slowly making our way throu it. The car park is on the "todo" list, as we know it needs attention.
We are really happy to read that you loved our location and we hope to see you again.

Fantastic spot for a getaway or fishing holiday. Very quiet location with a pub and home-cooked takeaways available within walking distance but also perfect as a base for travelling further afield. Shower and toilet facilities are great! The Bailey's pod came with a small TV, kettle and a double bed and outside picnic table area, which was all we needed. We could park right next to it which made unloading and loading much easier. Plenty of space between our pod and the next one and trees for shade in the hot weather. Our Husky loved it. She had a great play with Bow the owners' dog, and was hoping we would be staying forever I think!

    Clean and well maintained
Shop, games room, shared fridge, DVDs to borrow.

The site is well equipped, clean and well maintained. One of the best sites I have stayed at!!! Just the right size not too over crowded. The toilets and showers were new and kept clean And plenty for the amount of pitches in site.

The bell tent was amazing, really comfortable beds, warm and dry. We had some pretty bad rain but the tent and everything stayed dry.
The hosts were really welcoming and helpful. We really enjoyed our time there.
Also the children’s playground is excellent and help keep our 2 year old well entertained.
The fire pits are top quality and the toilets and showers were always very clean.
The showers are powerful and hot!

The travelling distance to the site for us was ideal for starters.

We were pleasantly surprised that the site was small yet well equipped and the pitch site was flat! The main camping site area could take more pitches, yet the site owners intend to keep it that way, as it allowed for peace and adequate space for everyone.

We were particularly happy with the dog exercise area which allowed you to let your dog off of the lead.

It is clear that the aim of the owners is to be as eco-friendly as possible and they intend to grow this ethos as they develop the site.

The 3 fishing lakes were an added bonus particularly for my husband and these are on site but suitably distanced from camping so fishermen are not disturbed.

It was lovely to see the optional camping facilities available such as the glamping pods and tents.

Showers and toilets were plenty for the size of site and very clean.

Site staff were approachable, friendly and informative. A freshly baked, sourdough loaf on a Saturday morning, from the local small farm shop, was a treat!

    Disliked:

The weather...but Burton Springs can't be held responsible for that! ;-)

Really dog friendly including a secure area for them to play with dog toys and plenty of poop bins. Owners are really nice with the most gorgeous dogs ever.

Facilities spot on, really good showers and toilets, with lots of room and hot powerful showers.

100% loved it here and would visit again if we are ever in the area.

Local attractions

Burton Springs' closest chunk of coast is at Burnham-On-Sea about seven and a half miles away. Seaside resort Weston-super-Mare is a few miles further along the coast from Burnham; for the Exmoor coastline, stretches of shoreline and sand like Kilve, Dunster, Minehead and Porlock are a short drive in the other direction.

The South West Coast Path, Britain's longest long-distance path, starts from Minehead on its epic 630 miles via the coasts of Devon and Cornwall to finish up at Poole Harbour in Dorset.

If this is a tad too much, other hikes around the region include the Quantock Hills, England's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; Brean Down, a Site of Special Scientific Interest managed by the National Trust, and the Mendip Hills, also an AONB and home to splendidly spectacular Cheddar Gorge.

The Burton team also reckons guests should take a look at the small wildlife and adventure park Tropiquaria, the National Trust's Dunster Castle and Fyne Court, the Bakelite Museum at Wilton, the RSPB reserve at Greylake, and the rides and attractions of Brean Leisure Park.

Paintballing is available at Cannington Park, nearby at Bridgwater.
