  • Off-grid farm site outside Eastchurch on the Isle of Sheppey
  • Views over the Thames Estuary and a 10-minute drive from beaches
  • Meet the farm animals on site and buy free-range eggs for breakfast

Cooking up a few fresh free-range eggs for a cracking Kent coastal brekkie? What a way to start the day.

That terrific view out over the Thames Estuary isn’t the only option as breakfast backdrop for guests at Clifftop Camping though. Pitches at this scenic Isle of Sheppey farm site are sorted on a pick-your-own basis, so you’re welcome to meander around the meadow, woodland and pond areas too before selecting a spot in which to settle.

And those eggs? Well, they’re from the hens that reside on this working farm. You can buy their offerings while you’re staying here, and meet their pals too: the current roster includes sheep, goats, horses, ponies, ducks and rheas.

This is an off-grid site so you’ll need to step away from the gadgets (sea views trump screen time anyway, eh?). It’s also pretty stripped-back on the facilities front, but there is one compost toilet and one tented chemical toilet, and you can access water in the farmyard.

For eats and supplies, a couple of pubs and shops are a mile away in Eastchurch; bigger supermarkets, restaurants and the like are 10 minutes’ drive away in Sheerness. Ins and outs should be fairly easy here, as you’re only around a 20-minute drive from the M2 and an hour or so from London. If you’d rather roam on public transport, there’s a bus connection to Eastchurch from Sheerness station.

Please note

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

    Highly recommended.

Friendly and welcoming site. Beautiful setting with a choice of woodland or cliff pitches. Lake with small boat was a bit hit with the children as were the farm animals which the owner was happy to chat about.

We will definitely be returning soon!

Location, pitches, quietness. This was our 2nd stay within a month at Clifftop and it just gets better. We opted for the forest location so we could use a tarp during the rain which was amazing. My son (8yrs Old) has fallen in love with camping so we will definitely be back for another visit soon. Thank you Catherine our host for going above and beyond. Real Gem of a campsite

Beautiful site on the edge of a cliff (obvs!) with lovely woodland or pond pitches for more shelter. We scrambled down to the beach which was more fun than it looked and found some fossil hunting and other treasure! It was the most wild we've camped but we all loved the freedom!

The remoteness of the location, the privacy, the free reign, the fire wood delivery, foraging for blackberries, the amazing view, easy access to water, Catherine was brilliant at making us feel very welcome and adapting to our very delayed arrival time.

Stunning place, we camped on the cliff top which was lovely, but windy so having a fire there burned through our wood very quickly. When i go again, i'll camp in the woodland or by the pond, its more sheltered.

Catherine was lovely and very helpful, she set up a forest school in the woodland under a suspended parachute - worth going to see.

Toilets are very basic, hole in the ground with a wooden shed over it, but it doesn't smell and was clean.

Fresh eggs available, fire pit hire £5 - take your rubbish home.

100% RECOMMEND it is a gem of a camping spot! :-)

Local attractions

If you’ve picked a place called Clifftop Camping it’s highly likely you’ll be after a bit of coast action. The quickest way to get it is to clamber down the cliffs (easier than it might sound; no abseiling needed) for a quiet little beach with some fab sea fishing to be done. Other options nearby include Minster Leas beach (10 minutes’ drive) and Shellness beach (20 minutes), where there's also a naturist area for folks seeking a skinny dip.

Active types are well sorted for things to keep them busy too: saddle up at the stables five minutes away, tee off at Sheerness Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive) or breeze over to Barton's Point Coastal Park (10 minutes) for a nature trail, adventure playground and watersports.

For a nod to travels of the past, it’s off to Eastchurch Aviation Museum (five minutes) or a narrow-gauge ride on the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway (20 minutes). Doddington Place Gardens are just over half an hour away if you’re more interested in gentle wanderings.

Must see

  • Whitstable Museum and Art Gallery (8.3 miles)
  • West Gate Towers Museum (13.3 miles)
  • Canterbury Heritage Museum (13.4 miles)

National Trust

  • Stoneacre (16.6 miles)
  • Cobham Wood and Mausoleum (19.3 miles)
