General

  • Adults-only off-grid glamping site eight miles from Maidstone
  • Three miles from Leeds Castle, one of Kent's most popular attractions
  • Rare-breed meat available to buy from the farm for your barbecue

Up for going off grid? Get stuck in at Redrock Glamping, eight miles from Maidstone and 10 minutes’ drive from the M20, so mighty handy if you need a mini escape from London life.

Aside from a handful of fellow guests, your neighbours on site will mainly be the Highland cattle, Hebridean sheep, pigs and chickens that live here all year round; you may also be joined by some passing wildlife in the hedgerows and wildflower meadows around the place...

Your tent may be devoid of electricity but you’ll be well kitted out regardless, as all tents come with a barbecue and a gas hob for cooking, a coolbox for food storage, a firepit for keeping warm, and plenty of battery-powered lanterns and torches for atmospheric ghost stories after dark. Other provisions include a basic larder (tea, coffee, oil and spices), crockery, cutlery, bed linen and towels. Logs, firelighters and charcoal can be picked up at the farm.

For the ultimate in feasts with low food miles, you can buy your meat directly from farm owners Ruth and Norman to take back to the barbecue on your pitch. Make sure you pick up extra provisions for a big breakfast the next day out on your private deck – nothing beats the smell and sound of an alfresco sizzling sausage of a morning... Other bits and bobs can be acquired at the supermarket, three miles away.

Very welcoming host. Kaz was awesome, she met us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed. The views over the fields and woodland from the bell tent were great. Lots of star gazing next to the fire when the sun went down. Good facilities for toilets and showers.

It was really nice, the bell tents were nice and warm, the toilets were really close, they even have a warm water shower that's not to far. All we needed to bring is the food and some drinks, everything else (plates, cups, cutlery, pots and pans) was provided.
We kind of kept to ourselves but if you want to socialise they sounded like they had a great time in the communal barn.
Just notice that the sign outside the camp is for Roundoak farm, got a bit lost on the way.

The tent set up and the hot showers. Clean facilities. The initial greeting. The tents were not too close together so there was privacy.

    Disliked:

The mattress on the bed is way too thin and we could feel every slat on the pallets. The low canopy over the stove and the sink is too low which means you are constantly bending. There were no hooks on the shower doors so you had to put your clothes on the floor. The fairy lit woods had been privately let despite no warning on the website and management seemed to be unaware and informed us we could walk there. A distinct “no show” of management meaning we were unable to request more logs, bbq coals snd ice blocks. We were not informed of the code to get out of the farm which meant we were unable to get out as early as we would have liked.

What an amazing stay we just had at Redrock Glamping! The bell tent was awesome, really cosy! The bed is raised on pallets so it's much more comfortable. I booked 3 nights stay in the bell tent with the decking outside with a small outside kitchen, it was so well eqiuped and well thought out. We loved cooking on the BBQ (the meat we bought straight from the farm, tasted so good) and sitting out till late with the fire pit roaring! Most the woodwork you see has been made by Peter, carpenter by trade and what an amazing skill he has! I got to feed the lambs at 9pm they were so cute! What made this different to any place I'd been to, is the hosts have set up a bar you can socialise at and they organised a few things you could do if you like joining in, such as the lamb feeding and the beer and bun night. I have never been somewhere so relaxed and the hosts were so friendly and were always checking things were ok, which they were! We bought more fire wood from them which came with everything you needed to make a great fire, we used all the first set they gave us free which was a lovely gift! They also have a woodland that has pretty lights that come on in the evening and makes a romantic walk. I also found a trampoline there, which I could not resisit. I was glad there was no wifi and electric to the tents because it made you switch off modern life and live for the moment, enjoy being back to basics and being woke up by nature and sunlight was far better than an alarm! The farm has just put brand new toilets and shower facilities, however we preferred the outside shower as it was more fun and made you feel that it was part of the glamping experience, but for luxury go to the others. There is also additional portable toilets outside closer to the tents that were convient and a washing up sink. It seemed the host have a great vibe for outside living and almost a festival feel to the place! The animals were so cute and allow to roam, which was so refreshing to see! I could go on and on about how much I loved this place, but I should draw to an end. My friend has already tried to book and found it busy so book in advance! I forgot to add it's a great location being next to Leeds castle and Delting show ground. Not far from London or the coast. No kids but dogs allowed.

We loved our stay with Redrock - it's a great set up. On a proper working farm, cows in the next field, pigs snorting, chickens clucking and lambs running around your feet. Lovely huge pitch with the bell tents set up with plenty of room around them. Pete and Kaz were so friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.
This year they have a great communal area with a firepit in case the weather is poor (which it was!). BBQs to hire are well worth it and we got a well stocked kitchen box too which had everything we needed. We also ordered meat from them and eggs that were brilliant. Lots of good walks in the area and good pubs around too. A great weekend.

Local attractions

Venturing back to the outside world, the first port of call around here must surely be Leeds Castle, three miles from the farm (and some 230 miles from the city of Leeds, for those who may get confused).

The castle is surrounded by a moat and 500 acres of parkland and formal gardens, with other attractions including falconry displays, punting, a maze, a Battle of Britain exhibition and (bit of an unusual one, this) a dog collar museum. If that’s too much to get round in one day, your ticket entitles you to admission for a whole year.

Half an hour’s drive from the farm is Bedgebury Pinetum, a 350-acre woodland area that’s now owned by the Forestry Commission. You can get around the site on foot, following one of the graded trails, or using one of the well-marked bike trails and hiring a bike on site if you need to. It’s also possible to join a guided bike tour where you’ll see some of the highlights and be taken to the pub for lunch.

You may well be needing some wine to accompany your barbecue, so keep your wine miles to a minimum by visiting award-winning Chapel Down Winery in Tenterden, a 20-minute drive away.
