Glamping in Essex

General

  • Peaceful rural site a mile and a half from the village of Witham

And if you're not a fishing sort? Also sorted: Colemans is a mile and a half from the village of Witham, from which you can reach Colchester in 15 minutes' drive in one direction and Chelmsford in 25 minutes in the other for days of shopping and sightseeing. Maldon and Mersea Island are within easy reach too, as is Southend for days at the Essex coast.

Whatever your plans for the day, there's a warm welcome at the site's Waterside licensed bar and restaurant, where the menu offers up full breakfasts, homemade lunches and desserts, seasonal dishes and afternoon tea, along with drinks to raise a glass to the catch of the day.

The pod was exactly as advertised. Clean, cosy and well presented. Jayne & Gerry were top class hosts and did their best to make sure we enjoyed our entire stay and always very helpful when we had any queries. For a short drive from east london, it was amazing to experience such a relaxing, scenic and peaceful stay in a pod that was above expectations and provided a home from home environment. From fresh clean towels, miniature shower gel and shampoo in the shower, to condiments, coffee, tea bags and sugar sachets in the Kitchenette, efforts were clearly made to ensure a comfortable stay. It was a perfect couples weekend away for my partner and I. Fishing was great also and the rainy weather didn’t dampen the experience in the slightest. Due to absence of light pollution, seeing the stars in the sky each night was a lovely end to each day.

Nicely kept, quiet site with fishing (we didn't fish but we enjoyed the vibe) Great to see the fish jumping out of the water.
When you get there you realise why there is no children allowed, it would upset the fishing.
The staff was very friendly and available for tips and welcome suggestions. The restaurant wasn't open due to Covid restrictions but it looked like it would have been nice.
On walks nearby we saw many pheasants and a 900 year old church!
Would come back again if visiting the area

    Disliked:

The owners really have a nice place, some of the magic is lost by the noise from the nearby motorway. Not much that can be done about that, but good to know if you are a light sleeper.

Loved the rural setting and the lakes, it's a beautiful setting. Liked that there are only a few campers at a time, for 1 night I was lucky enough to have the whole area to myself. Loved the fact its adults only as I was on a solo break away from 5 young children. I had breakfast there one morning, the service was brilliant and the food was lovely. There was only 1 shower and 2 toilets but they were always clean and the shower was lovely and hot. Adored the wild kittens in the tree and it was lovely to watch them being fed by the owners. The owners were very welcoming and even offered to help me set up, although I was fine to do this myself , the offer of help was very kind. Thank you for having me, I really enjoyed my stay.
