A day on the beach

General

  • Seven miles of golden beach and grassy hillocks
  • Nearby the park is the SSSI Rye Harbour Nature Reserve
  • Twin attractions of Hastings Castle plus Battle Abbey and Battlefield

There are a full seven miles of golden beach and grassy hillocks at Camber Sands in Rye – here, da dunes do run (and run). And with Camber Sands Holiday Park just steps away, there’s no reason Rye you wouldn’t pack your bucket and spade for a week or two in East Sussex…

After a morning dip or proudly constructing the Best Sandcastle Ever on the beach, clamber back to Camber to dip your toes into one of four heated indoor pools (one each, should you be so inclined) or plunge into the Jacuzzi and sauna, available to the grownups for a small extra charge.

Little people, meanwhile, can monkey around on the multisports field and adventure playground – rather thoughtfully, the latter is beside a decked area so you can supervise the offspring from over the top of your book.

Kids also have many daytime activities available for tots to teens: Pipsqueak's Mousehouse is especially for the under-fives, and there’s loads more to pick from whatever your picky little one’s tastes, from ballet to archery to football on the sporty side, and trivia, dances and karaoke for those who prefer to take things a little easier. Crazy golf and go-karting are also available on site for an extra fee.

For the evening shift, shift to the Showbar for music and entertainment from local and visiting acts, karaoke and themed nights; tums are covered from morning to night at the Boathouse restaurant and fish and chip bar with takeaway.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex parties of 3 or more people under 25 are not permitted on site.

Swimming pool access is included: please show your Entertainment pass.

Entertainment passes are included in the rate.

Glastonbury style pitch! No contact from Park only an email sent after we had left home for our holiday staying they didnt have a phone number yet my profile has my home & mobile number. Was interested in viewing statics but they are not interested in showing me. Swimming pool tepid, staff unhelpful, residents noisy & drunk, left after 2 nights as scared tourer would sink. Paid £160 for 2 nights!!!!!!

From the manager...

Hi Steve,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your helpful review.

We’re sorry to hear that things weren’t quite right during your stay and that the team weren’t able to get in touch with you prior to your stay. It’s always disappointing to learn, that any of our guests felt so let down, that they have no other option than to cut their break short.

We do appreciate that you had some concerns with regard to the team, however we can assure you that they are there to assist and had you have brought your concerns to their attention, they would have been happy to help make your break more enjoyable.

Fantastic 5 mile pebble/sandy beach when tide out, with concrete promenade, Kite Surfing, Paddle Boarding in shallow waters.
Hot power shower with daisy shower head, great price in low season.

    Disliked:

Ablutions plumbing/blocked toilets in females, lacking general cleanliness, wife felt she still needed a shower after having a shower, as there was a pungent smell in her ablutions. The men’s were better but the toilet seats didn’t fit the toilet.

The beach is beautiful and the town is quaint. The facilities amused my 3 year old and the night time entertainment was reasonable. Mobile home had everything we needed.

    Disliked:

Food was overpriced and mediocre. Rye doesn’t have much to do in it. Mobile home needed a revamp.

Local attractions

Slap sandy bang opposite the holiday park, Camber Sands is a family-friendly beach, crammed with wildlife on its dunes, larks soaring overhead, and even allowing beach barbecues (ask Rother District Council for permission in advance).

Wildlife hunters and naturalists can see many more species at the nearby SSSI Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, which has free entry, a network of footpaths, bird hides and spottable species such as marsh frogs, terns of several types, brown hares and nocturnal bats, badgers and foxes.

Both the village of Camber and the town of Rye have plenty of pickings for those staying nearby: start off at Camber for Camber Castle, built by – who would have guessed it around these parts – Henry No 8, and now managed by English Heritage. Access is by guided tour only and includes a tour around Rye Harbour nature reserve.

Heading east towards Kent, explorers can easily reach the sands of Folkestone and Hythe, the towering fun of the Grade II listed Old Lighthouse at Dungeness, and the ferry port at Dover for a day trip to la belle France.

Must see

  • Camber Sands (0.6 miles)
