  • Family- and biker-friendly site next to a pub serving food
  • On the edge of the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Hadrian's Wall within three miles; 10 minutes' drive from Wigton
Cumbria’s a cracker of a place for a hol, and the Inn at the Bush is a convenient site for a stopover when roving the region in your motorhome or campervan. Park up here next to the pub, bar and restaurant for fuss-free access to food, drink and the Solway Coast. The park is on the eastern edge of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, under 10 minutes’ drive from Bowness-on-Solway and 25 minutes west of Carlisle. Twitching type? You’ll be chuffed to know it’s also set close to the Solway Firth and the Solway Wetlands’ birdwatching haven. While the whole area may sound a little marshy, there are no worries about getting stuck in the mud while at this site: pitches are on ground that has never been flooded and a slight incline means water runs off the land so you can be confident of always being dry. This park is a simple spot, but you’ll have access to the essentials on the grounds, including toilets, showers, water taps and internet. It’s also family-, dog- and motorbiker-friendly, with four-legged creatures permitted in the pub if you’re planning on dining there.

Primitive gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked: Flat parking area

Disliked: The pub and facilities were closed. Recommend that you ring to check they're open. I can't really rate the facilities as they were all closed.

Liked: Friendly welcome. Cheerful helpful staff. Good selection of beers and wines. Straightforward menu with good homemade dishes. 24 hr access to the pub loos. Quirky shower shed with loads of hot water. Level carpark

Disliked: No lights in shower or loos the night we were there. I did mention it so I’m sure it’s been fixed.

Primitive gravel and cement/asphalt RV campsite

Liked: Fantastic large shower in car park, plenty outdoor toilets and covered seating area , about two beer gardens gets sun all day, post office shop within walking distance for newspapers beautiful village , cycled to bowness nice quiet roads Food nice in pub opens 5 pm food from 530 pm open every day now

Disliked: Having to get key from behind the bar for shower night before if wanting it early I did mention this to the owner that a code system maybe better he said he would look into it. All staff and owner very obliging Arrival time I was a bit confused as to why it states you cannot arrive until 4 pm when you leave at 11 am and it’s a hard standing car park , the end of the car park designated area for motorhomes, if I had not rang ahead to ask to go early would not have bothered as the whole day had gone

Local attractions

If you’re a keen birdwatcher, make the Solway Wetlands Centre at RSPB Campfield Marsh (within 15 minutes’ drive) your first stop for explores of the wildlife-rich wetlands and grasslands. And if you’re more of a hiker or a history fan? Get to the start of Hadrian’s Wall at Bowness-on-Solway (10 minutes) or access it just outside Wigton (five minutes) for walks beside this Roman-era structure. If you fancy making a foray a little further afield, cross the Scottish border to Gretna Green (half an hour) to see the spot where countless illicit marriages have taken place. The Lake District National Park is a little closer by (25 minutes) for jaunts around the fells and tarns; make sure to visit one of the most popular places in the area, Keswick (45 minutes), for especially stunning views. And if you feel like your trip to Cumbria needs some time by the beach? Set off for Silloth (25 minutes) and take a few hours out of your afternoon investigating this typically northern Victorian seaside resort. Backed by the Lake District’s fells and a fave of the artist Turner, it’s known for its spectacular sunsets.
