Site entrance

General

  • Peaceful site 10 minutes’ drive from York city centre
  • Well-placed for a city break in a rural setting
  • Half an hour from Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Tired of spending your hols stuck in the car? At Crockey Hill Caravan Site, 20 minutes’ drive from York city centre in North Yorkshire, you can park up for a few days and let yourself forget where you put the keys – you won’t need them.

Crockey Hill is well-placed for exploring this part of Yorkshire on two wheels: routes 65 and 66 of the National Cycle Network are easily accessible, both around 15 minutes’ cycle from the site – follow these to make your way to other national routes that crisscross the North Yorkshire countryside.

Missing city life? You can catch the bus into York from the stop right outside the site entrance and wander the city streets, visiting York Minster, the National Railway Museum, a host of breweries and tons more. If you want to party the night away in the city bars and clubs, there are even late-night buses at weekends that’ll bring you back to base.

Back on site, you can relax after your busy days and nights. Once you’ve worked up an appetite – or even if you’re just craving hangover food – you can pile up the barbecue with supplies from the nearby farm shop then chow down in peace and quiet. If you’d prefer a break from the cooking, there are plenty of restaurants, and bar-restaurants, nearby.

The site has a drinking water tap and grey water and waste disposal points.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

Met by the owner on arrival. Very welcoming. Lovely well kept site in peaceful location. Good sized pitches giving a good level of privacy. We used as stopover on way to East coast but we will be back because this is perfectly placed for trips to surrounding area and York in particular. Clear information on website. (There are no toilet block facilities.) This is made very clear on website and in confirmation emails. So shouldn't be 'starred down' because of this! Water points, EHU, chemical disposal, other waste disposal. All clearly organised. Perfect for our motorhome. Thank you.

The very friendly owner who greeted us on arrival and giving us lots of useful info including bus times.
The site is well kept, quite, and we loved watching the wild rabbit's in the field next door. We had everything we needed from fresh water to disposal units and bins.
Very easy site to stay on for access to York.
We will definitely be back soon.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, so pleased to hear you enjoyed our peaceful location and rate the site location and customer service so highly.
We really value our customers reviews and all feedback and can fully appreciate you were disappointed that there were no toilet facilities on site if you were expecting them.
In the Important Info section of our campsite page on PitchUp.com it says we do not have a toilet/shower block but I will ask them to also include this information in our campsite description as well so it is made clearer to future campers.
In the booking confirmation email I send to all our PitchUp.com bookings I also confirm there are no showers/toilets on site, however, in future emails I will increase the font size so this information stands out as we genuinely want to avoid anyone booking who doesn't realise our setup before arrival. Kind regards Gina and Gary

Local attractions

Start your stay at Crockey Hill Caravan Site with a step back in time at the haunted Nunnington Hall or the spectacular Castle Howard (which eagle-eyed visitors may recognise as the setting for Brideshead Revisited), both within 40 minutes’ drive of the site.

If you’re in need of a little retail therapy after all that (hard to look at the decadence of those old stately piles without wanting just a little of your own), you have options: the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet is less than five minutes from Crockey Hill, and you’re a bus trip or 10-minute drive from the shops of York (make sure to stop by the spectacular Shambles for souvenirs).

Once you’ve burned a hole in your credit card, stick around York for the racecourse, Jorvik Viking Centre and York Dungeon, then set your mouth watering with a guided tour of the city’s cocoa-y goodness past at York’s Chocolate Story.

Want to immerse yourself in the peace and quiet of unbridled nature instead? Make your way to the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to follow riverbank footpaths, farmland trails and scenic bridleways, and be sure to stop into the highly recommended pubs, cafés and restaurants when you need to get your energy back.

Must see

  • York Racecourse (2.7 miles)
  • National Centre for Early Music (3.3 miles)
  • York Castle Museum (3.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Goddards Garden (3.1 miles)
  • Treasurer's House (3.8 miles)

Cycle routes

Find local routes on the National Cycle Network - over 12,000 miles of cycling routes.
