General

  • Small and friendly site within walking distance of Yarm
  • Easy access to Tees river walks and whitewater rafting at Tees Barrage
  • Full English breakfasts or sandwiches available to buy

Hills and dales, rivers and lakes and a castle with a difference… there aren't many of north-east England’s top attractions you can’t reach in a short drive from Field View Campsite, just outside the village of Yarm in the county of Cleveland.

This is a friendly and family-run site, with pubs, shops, supermarkets and Yarm Castle five minutes’ drive or a pleasant stroll away along the banks of the Tees: this is a teeny model castle built by a local craftsman in 1880, with tiny stained glass windows and interior lighting. If you want to nose around bigger historic buildings, it’s a 10-minute drive from the site to Preston Park, a Georgian mansion surrounded by parkland and river walks, with a replica Victorian street, museum collection, adventure playground and skate park.

There’s a playground on site, along with an unheated shower/toilet block, and dogs are welcome too. Even more pleasantly, for a fee the team will deliver a full English breakfast to your doorstep in the mornings, as well as freshly-made sandwiches: just remember to check times and order in advance.

The owners kept intouch regarding our arrival details. It's in a great location to visit Yarm only a 30 mins walk into the centre. It was a small safe site. Sensibly the facility's closed diue to covid so can't comment on them. Pitches were nice and long. A quiet site except for some road noise. We wouldn't visit again only becouse we have now visited Yarm.

    Disliked:

Pitches were over grown, site needed tidying up. Pitch not level.

Poor unclean toilet/shower facilities09/21/2020

The fact Yarm was walking distance and was a lovely market town to visit. The views across the field from our site were enjoyable.

    Disliked:

The showers/toilet block was beyond awful, the mens being worse than the ladies with urine all over the floor, cracked urinals and generally very dirty. This would be bad enough anytime but during a pandemic was disgraceful. The toilet block looked like it had not been cleaned in months let along daily. At no time during our weekend stay did we see it cleaned or felt comfortable using it.

The site was a little noisy with the train track/station being so close and the road also added to the noise level and as we had dogs with us it was unfortunate there was no where nearby we could let them off (there is a field to walk them round but strictly on a lead).

From the manager...

thank you for your review.
we welcome all comments
we are disappointed to hear that our block fell below your expectations
.the field behind can be used for dog walking on and off the lead as our other guests have done before.

Liked the small friendly site. Owner was helpful and met us on arrival and showed us to our pitch (electric but no direct water supply).
As we live in the south we found this was perfectly situated, in that we could visit relations whilst staying there.
    Value for money site.

    Disliked:

Bit noisy at night from train station and main road. Toilet block could do with a bit of a refurb, however we used the showers and they were perfectly adequate, if somewhat dated.

Local attractions

There's all kinds to get up to round here for adventurous sorts, from canoeing, kayaking and whitewater rafting at Tees Barrage or motorbiking and rally driving at Croft circuit, both about 20 minutes’ drive away, to flitting through the treetops on zipwires and ropes at Dalby Forest Park, an hour and 20 minutes from the site.

Walkers can spend a day or two in the North York Moors National Park, walking round and fishing upon Cod Beck Reservoir (20 minutes), then heading up to Kildale (half an hour) to join the Cleveland Way hiking route to the coast. More peacefully, take the Esk Valley Railway to do the fab scenic route while seated.

If you prefer your train rides with a dash of heritage, the North York Moors Railway gives you the whole moors, hills coastline combo from Goathland down to Whitby (both an hour away) with toots and whistles and steam power. There’s more time travel to be found in the seaside town of Whitby itself, from Dracula tours to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum and the spooky ruins of the Abbey along with boat cruises and seal spotting.

Having done the moors, head west to the Yorkshire Dales National Park: it’s a 50-minute drive to Bolton Castle and the cracking countryside around it, and an hour to Aysgarth Falls, a magnet not just for waterfall watchers but also folk seeking hiking and biking activities.
