The spacious site

General

  • Quiet, out of the way, site on a Suffolk village green
  • Within 10 minutes' drive of Beccles and the beach at Southwold
  • Spacious setting, modern amenities and shaded play area with zipwire

To Beccles! And to Brampton Village Hall, for a peaceful stay within easy reach of the sands and beach huts of Southwold: if you seek Suffolk seaside, you're well sorted here.

Described by Pete and the team as a hideaway site, Brampton is nicely serene and remote – but well placed for attractions and amenities, with Beccles and Southwold about 10 minutes' drive away and a highly recommended farm shop a couple of minutes' stroll down the road. And then there's Lowestoft and Oulton broad, the RSPB reserve at Minsmere, the famed Latitude festival and – somewhat of a must if you're in Southwold – tours of award-winning Adnams Brewery...

You'll be pitching up on a spacious village green with a stay at Brampton (the site is the main income source for the village), on a roomy park with good modern amenities including a shower, hot and cold running water, and a washing-up point. As of 2018 there's a swish new play area too, sheltered from the sun and in a corner of the site under the trees – it's fairly sure that the zipwire will be a bit of a hit.

Quiet, although we were pretty much the only people there. A nice, simple, basic site ideal for the Norfolk/Suffolk coasts and the broads. Two big supermarkets in nearby Beccles. Friendly, helpful staff, always cheerful.

    Disliked:

Being old-fashioned and not relying on satnav, a signpost at the only junction in the village would have been useful.

Nice quiet site - great location! Love that you can have fire pits!

    Disliked:

Slightly odd people pitched next to us - smoked weed all day & night and it stank!
Very basic toilet facilities - weren’t that clean. Wouldn’t visit in the height of summer when it was busy as I stood in a shower queue with 3 people in front of me and the site wasn’t even full!

Lovely little site. Perfect size to let the children have a little independence as we could see them wherever they were playing on the site. Lovely play park. Friendly and helpful volunteer running the site with some great ideas for future development.

    Disliked:

Would be handy to have more than one toilet but didn’t affect our stay negatively.

Local attractions

Southwold is within easy driving or scenic cycling distance: have days here to wander the pier, build Sussex sandcastles, tee off on the nine-hole course, and covet the beach huts. The town's also home to Adnams Brewery, which thirsty types can tour, taste samples and – how splendid – make their own gin.

Half an hour's drive east will land you at Britain's most easterly town Lowestoft for more pier rambles, golden sands and enviable beach huts. From there, it's another mile or so to Oulton Broad: take the water taxi from Lowestoft's harbour for the most scenic route.

Twitchers should take their eagle eyes to RSPB Minsmere, where there are waders and water birds of all sorts to spy around its coastal lagoons – you may just possibly spot an otter too... Take one of the nature trails around the reserve, have a guided tour, or turn up for a family day at the Wild Zone and Wild Wood Adventure area.
