  • Scenic family site with spectacular views of the Shropshire Hills
  • A half-hour drive from Ironbridge, Hoo Farm and Telford Steam Railway
  • Ramblers' paradise: climb the Wrekin within half an hour’s drive
Fancy quiet hols in pretty and peaceful Shropshire countryside? Tiptoe along to Abdo Hill Farm, a family-friendly site less than 10 minutes’ drive from Shropshire's Market Drayton. This is outdoor holidaymaking without too many bells and whistles… facilities like toilet blocks, waste disposal and barbecue disposal are all in place, but there’s nothing else to distract from unwinding days of playing with the kids or taking a walk with the family’s four-legged companion. There are plenty of walks to inspire waggy tails and happy humans hereabouts though, starting with a stroll along Shropshire Union Canal (which passes about five minutes away) before travelling on half an hour to Ercall Wood, where an eight-mile loop that climbs the Wrekin starts. Do try to make it all the way to the top too, as it’s said one can see five counties from the peak on a clear day… It can be a challenging climb, so make sure to load up on fresh eggs and home-cured bacon (available on site) before the attempt, and plan to self-reward with some pub food and pints at the nearby inn less than five minutes from base, once the path circles back to terra firma.

Liked: An outstanding campsite! You can tell this campsite has been well maintained with lovely flat pitches and plenty of space. The facilities are great and everywhere is clean and tidy. A very chilled out atmosphere with very friendly staff that just can't do enough for you. The play area is great for children of all ages. We came with a 12 year old and a 2 year old and they both enjoyed the play area. The glamping pods looked lovely too for those not wanting to pitch up themselves! Most certainly a little gem of a campsite that we will return to in the future! Thank you guys!

Liked: Redwood smokehouse nearby was nice.

Disliked: Right next to a busy road so is noisy all night. No shop on site or within walking distance. Shower and toilet block tiny and not very clean and no privacy. Nowhere to walk from site as straight onto main roads with no pavement. Overpriced at £40 a night for virtually no facilities.

Liked: Paul is great and helpful. The site is nice with play aria and open field view. Has very small but clean toilets shower (but let's the site down) a41 road noise is bad

Disliked: A41 Road noise all the time day and night ..shower block needs replacing as 2 showers and cramped toilets are inadiquat and defiantly not suitable for disabled price was a bit high.

Liked: Everything. This was an excellent clean site and the owner Paul was so informative and helpful. It’s a lovely quiet site but great also for family’s as ther is a little play park too. Little touches like providing paper towels and sanitizer spray after each shower was amazing as you know that great care and detail have gone into it all. Would definitely stay again . Beautiful sunset and a quiet village. What’s not to like x

Local attractions

Start nearby explores with an immediate trip into Market Drayton, 10 minutes’ drive from the site: there are plenty of small independent shops and restaurants to try out, indoor and outdoor pools to plunge into, and a local brewery where tours are a must. The market town was the one-time home of gingerbread too, so make sure to sample the wares, liberally… See more of the Shropshire countryside by heading next to Norbury Junction 20 minutes away, where the canal’s barges are moored and where there’s a narrowboat that visitors can catch for slow-paced puttering along the waterways. This is a particularly stellar part of the country for delving into the past too: history buffs can have their pick from stately homes, National Trust sites and the tar tunnel, china museum and Victorian village of Ironbridge Gorge, all within about half an hour, and the famed Hawkestone Park Follies are 10 minutes from base. Ease the rest of the family into the right frame of mind with jaunts on the Woodseaves Miniature Railway (five minutes away) and the Telford Steam Railway half an hour from the site, or opt instead for some time among the animals – Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom is 25 minutes from home base and Trentham Monkey Factory is a little under 40 minutes away.
