National Water Sports Centre: Exterior view

General

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids

What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the National Water Sports Centre near Nottingham are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; a waterpark with cableway for wakeboarding; paddleboarding, open-top canoeing, turbo paddling and open-water swimming.

But! This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, Segway hire, play area and mini e-combat, as well as a footgolf course. An assault course, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception).

Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots is on offer too to keep the kids amused, including outdoor table tennis, a volleyball/badminton court, a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail a short stroll away.

Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling groceries and camping supplies.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

All onsite food and drink establishments are closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Group bookings of 2 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Reception is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

The camp site itself was superb. Excellent pitches, well kept.

    Disliked:

The shop was possibly the worst camp site shop i've ever been to, and the staff very grumpy. No basics like Milk, Butter, bread - just blank looks as though I was mad for asking for it. Very strange.
The Elsan points whilst functional were very dated, and not in good condition.

This was a nice site with wide level pitches in a convenient location and easy access for those wanting to participate in water sports

    Disliked:

Google maps did not take me to the site using the post code but to the National Water Sports Centre.

We have a campervan but the barrier closes at 8.00pm and is set at 1.98m about 5cm too low to enable us to leave the site for 12 hours. This would also be the case for any camp vans with roof bars.

The guidance does say ‘no access for high sided vehicles after 8pm’ but there were lots of campervans using this site! So a slightly higher barrier would improve this site.
