  • Chatsworth House gardens, petting zoo and more 20 minutes' drive away
  • Two pub restaurants a short walk from the site
Want peace in the Peaks and high-octane activities in the hills? Country house grandeur and granite crags? City galleries and a slice of solitude? Cram all that in with a stay at Lambs Glamping, a quiet pod site on the edge of the Peak District National Park with scenic views over the surrounding countryside. Climbing and walking trails at Curbar Edge are five miles away; the playground, petting zoo, art collection and gardens of Chatsworth House are 20 minutes by car, and it's around 40 minutes to the mountain bike trails of the Dark Peak Estate or to the vibrant university city of Sheffield. The grounds are grassy and spacious, and a bridlepath runs behind the farm for horse riding and nature walks. There's a pair of pub restaurants at the bottom of the lane, about 10 minutes' walk away. The pods are modern and self-contained, with access to other amenities including a bathroom block with toilets, washbasins and hot showers. Barbecues and campfires are allowed.

Robin camping pod (secluded, hot tub)

Liked: Pod layout, very comfortable and clean. Warm and cosy. (Hardly needed the heating on) Hot tub was superb …it took nearly 3 hours to heat up the first time, but the water remained warm and was much quicker the following days-

Disliked: The road (track) down to the site is a real bone shaker!

Owl camping pod (hot tub, woodland)

Liked: Clean and tidy, modern interior, well kept outside with table and chairs and firepit. Owners on hand for any call/questions. Lovely farm cat paid us a visit every day too. Overall a very nice, secluded spot, at just ten minutes from Chesterfield, you would think you really were in the middle of the peak District!

Owl camping pod (hot tub, woodland)

Liked: Brilliant pods, had a great time! Peaceful, surrounded by countryside and horses, with a great pub 15 mins walk away. The comforts of a hotel room with the added benefit of a fridge, freezer, microwave and hob, with the sense of camping by waking up in a field with views over the countryside and a firepit. We found the track to the site was fine too, a bit bumpy but no big potholes anymore.

Owl camping pod (hot tub, woodland)

Liked: Absolutely loved the glamping pod which was better equipped than expected. My kids loved the bunk beds and the double bed was very comfortable. Lovely shower and bathroom facilities and well equipped kitchen with hob, fridge, glasses, plates and so on. Would definitely stay here again. Only thing to note is that the pub which is in walking distance is not open Mondays and Tuesdays but there's plenty of places a close drive away.

Local attractions

A 10-minute drive from the site, Curbar Edge is a top pick for outdoor days: walkers often take the circular route from Curbar Gap over the high ridges of Curbar and Froggatt Pinnacle before descending to the Derwent Valley: a six and a half-mile trek that pleasingly ends at the pub. Rock climbers, meanwhile, can tackle Curbar Edge's 200-odd paths. For easier ambles at ground level it's a 15-minute drive to the Linacre reservoirs, an area of woods and lakes covered in paths and inviting picnic spots. Castleton, half an hour away, is the hub for some of the Peak's best-known trails and attractions, like the Blue John Caverns and the ascent of Mam Tor. If poking round other people's houses appeals, it's 20 minutes to 16th-century Chatsworth House, with a massive art collection, grand gardens, petting zoo and playground, and half an hour to its smaller medieval counterpart Haddon Hall. If you're heading that way it'd be a crime to miss out the pretty market town of Bakewell (20 minutes) on the River Wye: the Monday markets draw the crowds, and you can always escape them afterwards to the peace of the Monsal Trail, a former railway line now giving hikers, bikers and horse riders some of the best views around. For more pulse-racing kinds of pedalling it's 40 minutes to the Dark Peaks Estate and its array of mountain biking trails. If you fancy a city fix after all that fresh air, it's the same distance to Sheffield for its Millennium Gallery, Metalwork Museum and Ale Trail.
