  • Family-friendly site in Buckinghamshire with adventurous activities
  • A five-minute drive from Marlow; 15 minutes from Cliveden
  • Archery, raft-building and bushcraft on site
Quality time’s in the air at Marlow Family Camping… you’ll be mucking right in at this purpose-built, family-friendly site in Buckinghamshire, as things here are fully geared up for an adventurous break. That means reels of activities on and off site for the whole family, such as paddleboarding or kayaking on the Thames or taking a leisurely riverside stroll (all in Marlow, five minutes’ drive away) before returning to more action (or a snooze) back on site. You may stumble upon a new hobby here… the site has years of experience running residential activities, from archery and raft-building on the on-site lake to bushcraft so that you’ll likely feel fully in the wild. And to put your family’s team spirit to the test, there’s a low ropes course and a crate stack. Handily, after all that activity, there are plenty of restaurants, pubs, cafés and bars in Marlow, including places under half an hour’s walk away from the site. While the spacious grassy pitches may feel like a peaceful little pocket in the outdoors, the site is well connected to major roads and transport, including public transport links in Marlow, the A404 (two minutes’ drive away) and the M40 (five minutes’ drive).

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: the location and the staff we had to deal with were extremely helpful.

Disliked: We were the only us there. The site when booking had activities on every day but once there, they were only on at the weekends.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Location Lots of space Hot showers High security with two electric gates

Disliked: Unkept site except for the grassfield. Water that is supposed to be drinkable was coming out of faucets with growing algae. Apparently dogs that run wild because i bumped into two droppings in the middle of the field. No one at reception. Toilets are not suitable for smaller children, they cannot open the doors to go inside without falling backwards off the stairs. Big Marque was nice, but also very muddy at some points.

Bell tent

Liked: Activities were excellent, well run and good value. Area clean, tidy and well kept. They went the extra mile to get me power for a breathing device via generator which was great

Disliked: Airbeds and firepit not there when arrived (and we arrived a day late) and then had to ask couple times and wait etc.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: We had a wonderful time! My 9 and 10 year old boys loved it! Their best camping trip so far. We loved watching the red kites fly over head, the spacious field to play in, the fun big-top style marquee and the exciting woodland. Not to mention their love for all the activities and swimming and paddle-boarding in the lake. In the evenings we'd walk along the river into Marlow for dinner before coming back to our tent to light a fire and have hot chocolate.

Disliked: This is an eco-aware campsite and as such some creature comforts are slightly dialed back, such as free-running showers and fancy loos.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful location &convenient for walking into Marlow. Staff couldn’t do enough for you. Friendly & welcoming.

Disliked: Toilet facilities could have been better but this is more dependent on how other campers treat them than the site operators themselves.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Everything was great, friendly staff, clean campsite and great activities! Our children aged 7&9 had the best time and Josh, the activities instructor, was great with all the kids! The activities are excellent value for money, well worth a visit! We will be back in the summer!

Disliked: Toilets being unisex was the only downside, shame they couldn’t have a female side and a male side, but they were cleaned regularly and definitely wouldn’t stop us returning.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Great location with a nice walk along the Thames into Marlow Activities available for the kids It was quiet while we visited so lots of space for the kids to play Showers were hot and a good pressure

Disliked: The toilets smelt terrible, you could even smell them while walking past so imagine the smell when inside. We all avoided going as much as possible and my son actually wretched at the smell in the morning. They smelt stagnant and flushed with green/black water. In the mornings there were flies covering some of the toilets and the soaps were all empty apart from one. The showers could be improved by a couple more hooks or a bench for your things to keep them dry.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We are very sorry about the issue with he toilets. We had a busy half term and they weren't emptied when they were supposed to be, which led to issues on Saturday and Sunday. We've received some 10/10 reviews from people staying just before the weekend, so this was a one-off. We appreciate that doesn't help your experience and we will do everyhting we can to avoid it happening in the future.

Bell tent

Liked: Location, some of the organised activities were good

Disliked: Customer service. Tents were only cleaned after requesting on arrival, toilets were cleaned or replenished all weekend, very misleading advertising. There was no 'self led' activity. The large marquee was empty with no 'games'. And there was NO CAFE on site as advertised

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. For 2023, we have upgraded our toilets. There was an error with the pitchup listing which mentioned a cafe - this has been corrected.

Local attractions

More on Marlow (five minutes’ drive)… there’s a 19th-century suspension bridge and shops, as well as playgrounds and watersports. A little extra drive will get you to the woodlands and gardens at the National Trust’s Cliveden House (15 minutes), while Odds Farm Park (15 minutes) is all about the family, thanks to interactive animal activities and play areas. The interests of any mini-yous might be at the front of your mind and handily there are a few places designed for them to let loose, including the theme park at Thorpe Park (35 minutes), Harry Potter studio tours at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London (35 minutes) and Beale Park's (45 minutes) wildlife park, farmyard and play areas. Perhaps Stonor Park (half an hour) too, for a historic house, gardens and playgrounds? As for indulging in nature, that’s the speciality in the Chiltern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (20 minutes), where the slopes are marked with walking routes past historic market towns. You’ll get a good bite out of walking and cycling trails, watersports, angling and boat trips on the canal at Colne Valley Regional Park (20 minutes) too.
