  • Alaska Native-owned campground in Glennallen, with spectacular views
  • Sociable free dessert nights around the campfire weekly in summer
  • 10 minutes' drive from the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve
Just stop for a moment and take a look at those views – as the pics suggest, it’s a mighty scenic outlook at all hours for guests at Northern Nights Campground & RV Park. By day (clouds permitting), the views from this Glennallen rural campground take in not one, not two, but three of Alaska’s major mountain ranges. As the sun dips towards the horizon later on, keep your fingers crossed for those big skies showing a stunning sunset before turning deeply dark for some spectacular stargazing. Tempting as it may be, it’s unlikely that you’ll spend your whole day sat about on site gazing at the views, so it’s good to know that a handy location at the intersection of two major highways (1 and 4) means that getting out and about is a cinch from here. Bring rods along to snag salmon in the Copper River, don your boots for hikes in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve or up the adrenaline levels with rafting trips, glacier hikes and flightseeing outings. Back at your campground (owned and run by a Native Alaskan family), all the essentials are in place: there’s free wifi, a laundry room, a washing-up area and a facilities block with toilets and token-operated showers. Swing by in summer for regular sociable evenings around the campfire chatting with fellow travellers and munching on free desserts. Picnic tables are around for your other meals, with grocery supplies just a five-minute drive away.

Euro 1 bedroom cabin

Liked: Is it Ok to describe the situation honestly? As soon as I arrived, the owner said " there is no water, it's dry." I did not understand that first. That means "currentry no water supply to the cabin. so, no tilet, no shower in th cabin." Hey, that was totally different from the description in the web reservation page. If I knew "No shower, No toilet in the room.", I would not book the room(cabin). However, I had no other choice except staying the "no water" cabin. How could I find other possible hotel/motel? Room charge was discouted. I was aware that the toilet, the shower in the room(cabin) looked like disavailable for a long time. It was not "currently". Web site description " toilet, shower in the room" should be erased.

Disliked: Bed making was not so clean. Also bed sheets were not new. A couple of somebody's hair were remained on the sheets.

From the manager: We apologize for any inconvenience the unexpected water issues may have caused. We just purchased the park in June of this year and have been actively trying to correct the situation. We did our best to provide suitable accommodations as well as provide a discounts, as we realize the cabins was not as advertised online. We still had restrooms and showers readily available on site. As it was just the cabin that had the plumbing issues. Again our apologies.

Euro 1 bedroom cabin

Liked: Office staff was helpful Clean and well lit toilets.

Disliked: Under renovation, without prior notice. No soundproofing between adjoining cabins.

From the manager: We are sorry to hear about your experience. Not sure what you mean by soundproofing, but these are log cabins with a shared restroom. The cabins are currently under renovations to replace the water system. Winters are hard jn alaska. Unfortunately we weren't able to contact guests as we did not have contact information available as we were only recently able to gain access to pitchup since purchasing the Campground in June and no contact info was left from previous owner for already booked guests.

Euro 1 bedroom cabin

From the manager: Unfortunately we had a medical Emergency which delayed our return. I did call in a friend to give out the cabin keys. There were no verbal complaints and everyone seemed to understand. Regards.

Local attractions

Get ready to hit the river – it’s a mere 15-minute drive to Copper Center, where expert guides can take you out in search of the prized red salmon and king salmon that swim in the Copper River and other nearby waterways. If you’d rather watch the river action, keep your eyes out for traditional fish wheels ploughing the waters; on the other hand, if you want to get properly stuck in with the waters, sign up for rafting trips from Copper Center. Hikers and cyclists have miles and miles (and miles and miles) of trails to explore in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve. There’s potential to get lost in the park’s 13 million acres, so stop off at the visitor centre (10 minutes’ drive from Northern Nights) for route maps and the latest trail updates. Once you’ve seen it up close, get an epic overview of some of the scenery (glaciers and all) on a flightseeing trip with Copper Valley Air Day Tours (five minutes’ drive).
