General
- Family site with quiet shaded pitches half a kilometre from Serrateix
- 20 minutes' drive from the medieval town and castle of Cardona
- Outdoor swimming pool with large grass sun terrace all around
Pitch yourself in the shade the centenary trees, put your feet up and relax as you look out over the surrounding fields, woods and mountains – that’s the spirit at Camping Masía l’Hostalet. Gracias to the location, on a hillside 729 metres above sea level, there’s usually a cool breeze even in high summer and plenty of shaded spots in which to spend your siesta.
Outside siesta time there’s plenty to keep you occupied up here, all in the grounds of a handsome farmhouse that's stood here since the 14th century. Kids (the human variety) can meet other kids (the goat variety) as well as a full squawk of birdlife including chickens and turkeys over at the farm. There's a playground to keep them entertained too, and pétanque, table tennis and a sports area for football, basketball and other team games for family or grownup competitive times.
An outdoor pool is also on site, along with a wide grassy area all round it for sunbathing. Then consider eats and drinks: the easiest way to dine is to cook over coals at the communal barbecue area before heading to the on-site bar for a cool drink on the terrace as the sun goes down.
The farm’s mini market sells a range of essentials; to stock up further, make the 20-minute drive to Cardona or Puig-reig.

Local attractions
Your first outing from the site should be the 10-minute walk down to the little village of Serrateix – it’s a tiny place but worth visiting to have a look around the ninth-century monastery.
A 20-minute drive away is the village of Cardona, whose charter has been in place since the year 986. The Medieval Cardona Centre will tell you a bit of the history of the place, and you can also visit the hilltop castle. Just outside the village, take the underground and overground tour of the Salt Mountain Cultural Park to see both the salt mines and the natural shapes that have evolved in some of the caves.
There are further castles to visit in Súria and Balsareny, both around 25 minutes’ drive away.
If your kids liked meeting the animals on the farm, they can see more at the Centre d’Apropament a la Natura, 20 minutes away, where they can wave hi to horses, ponies, Vietnamese pigs, porcupines, birds of prey and emus. You can also get touchy-feely with some of the animals – play with guinea pigs, a salamander or a boa constrictor, depending on how brave you’re feeling or how much you want to impress/ horrify the kids.
