  • Woodland site five minutes’ drive from the pretty spa town of Luso
  • Within 40 minutes' drive of Coimbra and Aveiro
  • Bar, restaurant, food shop, garden and tennis courts on site
In need of a getaway to wash your troubles away? Make a beeline for the Aveiro region’s Parque de Campismo de Luso, a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from the spa town of Luso. Explores around Luso are a must: the prettily scenic town is renowned for its healing waters, and a stop at St John’s fountains and the town’s spas should help to soothe any tired muscles. A slightly longer jaunt to the nearby walled arboretum, the National Forest of Buçaco, is absolutely called-for too, for leafy wanders and pitstops at the stunning Convent de Santa Cruz, the spectacular Jardim de Palace Hotel and the military museum. Back on site, keep busy by going game-set-match on the tennis courts, setting the kids loose in the playground or having some screen time in the TV and games room; otherwise head back into Luso for a dip in one of the swimming pools to cool off. Meals are well covered on site too: start days off right with a continental breakfast, stroll along to the small food shop for basics and essentials, bag a table at the bar-restaurant for evening bites, or fire up the barbecue for something DIY. Be sure to try some of the local specialities while out and about too, with bread, wine and bairrada piglet top of the list.

Local attractions

This is a particularly well-placed site for anyone seeking rural peace within easy reach of city days (for when the quiet becomes too much). Close to the National Forest of Buçaco and half an hour’s drive from the Paul de Arzila Nature Reserve – a marshland that’s home to a large number of animal species, including the red heron – it’s nevertheless within 40 minutes of Coimbra and Aveiro; both cities are well worth a visit. The pretty and hilly riverside Coimbra has botanical gardens and Roman ruins to stroll through, monasteries and museums to explore; it's also home to the particularly stunning Joanina library (which eagle-eyed guests might recognise inspired sets in the live-action remake of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast). Aveiro could easily be called the Venice of Portugal: the city is crisscrossed by canals navigated by colourful boats, and there are plenty of grand buildings to impress visitors. There’s also a waterpark if a day’s splashing about beckons, and making time for a bite or two (or three) of the local delicacy – ovos moles – is an absolute must. If the ocean is beckoning, there’s sea, sand and (hopefully) sun at Praia de Mira and Costa Nova, 45 minutes away – or opt instead for a more contained experience with fishing or watersports on Lagoa de Barrinha, also 45 minutes from base.

Power optional grass and earth motorhome site

Liked: Site quiet. Old gentlemen sat having lunch watching tv told us to pit anywhere and go back later. Went back and he was in reception😂
Walked into Luso village had a drink. Should have stayed another night to have a look round during the day. We needed some more bottled water and went to see where everyone was getting it from and it was a fountain you can fill up as much as you want. Nice water

Disliked: Motorhome water top up be careful cobble raised I tripped over them luckily wasn’t too badly hurt

Disliked: The place looked abandoned! There weren’t many people and the facilities were damaged.
Dogs were barking very loudly and the place is in the middle of nowhere at the top of a cliff.

Power optional grass and earth caravan site

Liked: Spacious and clean facilities that would benefit from uplift. Very quiet on the site (very few pitches occupies) but noisy barking close by.

Disliked: Bar and restaurant closed, Reception not often open. Very expensive for what there was, felt we were charged high season prices for low season facilities.
