General
- Wooded park on the banks of the Arno river, 5km from central Florence
- Cycle into the historic city centre on a quiet riverside bike path
- Two swimming pools overlooked by sun terrace and restaurant/bar
It’s an excellent idea to bring a bike if you’re staying at Firenze Camping in Town – a dedicated cycle path runs along the banks of the Arno river from here for a safe, swift and scenic ride into the centre of Florence. Travelling light? No problem – adult and kids’ bikes can be hired on site.
This lovely tree-filled park is in the Rovezzano area of Florence, five kilometres from the city centre. If you’re not keen on pedalling, a shuttle bus will transport you to the historic centre to take in all the famed sights, museums and galleries (too many to list, and too many to cram into one visit – best be planning to head into town a few times if you can).
Cycled or museum-ed out after your day trip? Cool off back at base with a dip in one of the pools (a most welcome sight on a hot day in the city): dive into the main pool for an energetic swim, or have a more gentle splash about in the leisure pool, with fountains and other fun things to mess about with. Poolside basking is also an option, either on the loungers around the sun terrace or with drinks on the bar terrace that handily overlooks the water.
And it’s not just drinks on offer at the bar… it’s also open in the mornings for a breakfast buffet (extra charge) and later serves up a menu of Italian classics at lunch and dinner, including some particularly fine pizzas. There’s also a very well stocked mini market on site.

It’d be a fine idea to plan several days out in central Florence, allowing you to see all the top sights without having to race around too much. The Uffizi gallery can fill a day on its own, and you’ll no doubt also want to be seeing the cathedral (which had the world’s largest dome at the time of its design), the Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Vecchio, Giotto’s bell tower, the medieval Santa Croce church, Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia Gallery…
All that history and art can become a little overwhelming if crammed into a short space of time, so make sure to factor in a bit of downtime – perhaps with a cruise down the Arno river on a traditional wooden boat or a stroll through the gorgeous Boboli and Bardini gardens (particularly fine places to be around sunset for their city skyline views).
For a change of scenery, it’ll take you around an hour to get to Siena or Arezzo by car. Similarly, the wineries around San Gimignano are about an hour’s drive away.
