General

  • Scenic family-friendly site on the leafy banks of the Argens
  • Fréjus’ beaches, waterpark, zoo, Roman remains within 20 minutes
  • Heated pool, miniature golf, boules, archery, shop, bar-restaurant

Mulling over a vacation in the Var region? Then let your mind wind towards mulling a stay at Camping Le Moulin des Iscles, a family-friendly spot five minutes’ drive from the petite town of Roquebrune-sur-Argens.

This peaceful part of the world is a fine place to plonk down for days spent pottering around the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur area, especially for those fond of aquatic antics. Make the most of the location on the banks of the Argens river by hiring a canoe or small boat on site for a day of paddling; or, if it’s seawater that floats your boat, get in the car for the 20-minute drive to the beaches of Fréjus and Saint-Aygulf.

Completing a trinity of watery assets is the swimming pool on site – handily heated so the splashing can continue throughout the season. Time to dry off briefly? Perhaps putt your way round the miniature golf course, test your bowling arm at a pétanque competition or act out medieval fantasies at the archery area.

A bar-restaurant and small shop are on site for sorting hungers and thirsts easily, but it’s not a lengthy jaunt into town if you prefer to forage in the shops, supermarket and restaurants there. If you need an incentive to spur you along the 20-minute walk/10-minute bike ride it's worth bearing in mind that Roquebrune just happens to be home to the Maison du Chocolat et Cacao and several chocolatiers…

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

This campsite is set next to a peaceful river near the lovely small town of Roquebrune-sur-Argens. It was also within easy driving distance of the coast. The definite highlight was the amazing outdoor pool which was heated and had lots of great features such as a hot tub section with recliners in the water and a water play area for small children. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We borrowed a 3-person canoe for free and paddled down the river one morning. There was a bouncy castle for the children in the evenings and a restaurant which you could order fresh bread from in the mornings.

    Disliked:

Pitches were a bit small and it felt like the neighbours were very close.

Don’t bring your children as there is a couple that stay here 6 months out of the year and hate kids.what ever the kids do they will moan. They don’t leave there caravan and don’t spend money and all they do is complain.
The toilets are disgusting and leak from the roof so you get a shower when using the toilet.Dont talk or play any music even at 8pm as this is total unacceptable by the grumpy children hated couple who will continue to invade your pitch until you basically go to bed.
Very sad as we had a week booked here but left after 1 night due to the crap management who are happy to let the witch parade around upsetting everyone .

From the manager...

Hello, thank you for your comment however you didn't say that you made noise until 4 am in the morning and that several guests came by to ask if you could lower your voices because they couldn't sleep. Kind regards, the management

Wonderful peaceful riverside pitch. Shaded and pretty. Spotlessly clean loo and shower blocks. Great small pool and Bertrand a charming, welcoming host. Very well positioned to explore the hills and coast. A small campsite, mostly Dutch and French older couples staying (early June) everyone was very friendly, the only shrieking children were ours! Not a vast Alton Towers with sun style spread which is much in it's favour!

    Disliked:

Nothing to dislike. I would imagine that in high season it would be crammed as pitches seem small but in early June we could spread ourselves a bit.

Energetic and passionate owner (new owner), rightfully proud of his improvements, who arranged a tent site for us with a bar fridge (!) when we enquired about keeping food cold. Best wifi of our trip so far. Riverside pitch. Heated swimming pool with spa jets.

    Disliked:

Due to early spring season a few facilities not open/online yet, but can't complain - trust that the owner's upgrades on hot water and restaurant will prove as fine as his wifi/pool/cabanas

From the manager...

Local attractions

So, to the sea… a drive of 15 minutes or so should get you to Saint Aygulf, where the beach caters to all sorts – there are family-friendly, dog-friendly and naturist sections and there’s often enough of a breeze to let the kitesurfers do their thing. Snorkellers and sailors will want to aim instead for the coves and creeks around Les Issambres, while those who like smartly groomed and serviced sands should take a foray to Fréjus (both are 20 minutes away by car).

If you’ve not yet exhausted the thirst for aquatic activity, scoot over to the slides of Aqualand waterpark (15 minutes); if it’s time for a dry day out, take a look at Luna Park amusement park (15 minutes) or meet the mammals, birds and reptiles at Fréjus Zoo (20 minutes). Sweet-toothed sorts will of course want to swing by the Maison du Chocolat et Cacao museum once back in Roquebrune.

For more active times, there are games of golf 10 minutes away, treetop clambering at Provence Aventure (half an hour's drive) and the chance to see it all from way, way up in the air at the skydiving centre in Saint-Paul-en-Forêt (half an hour).
