General

  • On the Opal Coast a kilometre from the sea and 5km from Le Touquet
  • Fitness centre, playground and pétanque court
  • Less than an hour's drive from Calais

Ah, Le Touquet Paris-Plage… the famed French beach on the Pas-de-Calais coast that's been home to literati types like Noel Coward and PG Wodehouse, and that sees thousands of sun seekers flock to it each summer. (When you get there, you'll see pourquoi.)

If you'd like to stay nearby and be on an Opal Coast beach as soon as poss after waking up every morn (oui), base yourself at Camping La Forêt, a peaceful site on three hectares of land, a kilometre from the sea at Stella beach, five kilometres from the famed sands of Le Touquet, and a well-set base to use for day tripping around Pas-de-Calais and northern France. Sporty things like hiking, fishing, kitesurfing and biking are all easily accessible in the area.

La Forêt has a fitness centre, a playground, a pétanque court and two games rooms with ping pong, pool, table football, air hockey and card games.

There's also a launderette with a washing machine and a tumble dryer, and cylinders, regional products and souvenirs on sale.

I can’t honestly say we liked anything about this site- very dissatisfied

    Disliked:

This site is a mobile home site with 5 small camping pitches stuck by the very busy main road. The facilities were filthy and unmaintained- bins not emptied for 2 days and overflowing, empty soap dispensers; toilet seat broken in disabled toilet- blood on cubicle walls-disgusting in fact.wi if signal useless so had to ask family in U.K. to send me text translations so I could communicate

Reception hardly ever open . We actually cut our holiday short by 3 days due to the unhygienic and unacceptable conditions.

Nice quiet little site. The kids were happy and safe riding round the site on their bikes, and enjoyed the okay area, ping pong and pool. Being only 5mins drive to the beach is a huge plus.

Touring Pitch no 12 was cramped to get into and out. Not easy with a Caravan. Pitches are more designed for tents. Bit of a way to the beach.

Location , 5 min bike ride to local beach (beaches beautiful and clean) 5min bike ride to local restaurants and shops and 10 min bike ride to local supermarket.

No one at reception was locked , we arrived at 2.00pm , another couple waiting as well , note on door to phone number but no one answered. Kept waiting for 10mins , no apology given. Young lady on reception offered no explanation to where anything was around park or locally. Pitches are very uneven, unkept , grass not mowed. But they do give a wild camping feel to them but sadly smack bang on the main road can always be heard.(We did like the privacy of the tall hedges our one had But not all do so you might want to take wind breakers for more privacy. This park is mostly set up for the many 95% permanent moblie home residents.shower block clean but in need of refurb. But we would stay again because of location and we know what we are getting now.

We arrived early, due to early ferry crossing from Dover! Was not a problem! We were all pitched up by 11am. Ladies at reception were so helpful, our pitch was lovey and spacious. We called it “our garden”.
Bus stop right outside site for Le Touquet. All facilities were great. Could not fault.

Local attractions

As well as its posh old past (it was once nicknamed 'Paris by the sea'), Le Touquet is a main beach on the coast of northern France for its outdoors and sporting opps: there are several horse riding activity centres around the Centre Equestre, the tennis club has a few dozen courts, and the area has hosted four Tour de France races. Golf and horse racing are just inland from the beach.

About seven kilometres away is the fishing port of Étaples, set on the Canche river and used by Allied forces in both world wars; a military cemetery is in town with about 11,500 graves. The Rope Walk and the Étaples Museum of Seafaring are also worth a look.

Also on the coast and about 15 kilometres away, the Citadel of Montreuil-sur-Mer is a 16th-century royal citadel built on the foundations of a medieval royal castle, now an official monument and a museum. Both the Parc Bagatelle theme park and Aqualud waterpark are within a short drive.

Camping La Forêt is less than an hour's drive from Calais and the Eurotunnel.
