It's free, quick and easy!
- 10-hectare site a few minutes' walk from the small village of Sournia
- 45 minutes from hikes and adventure sports in the Gorges de Galamus
- Outdoor swimming pool, restaurant and summer kids' club activities
Torn between the twin attractions of mountain rambles and beach days? Abandon such dilemmas and settle for a spot that’s got easy access to both, along with plenty of fine weather to enjoy then in – this area boasts a whopping average of 300 sunny days a year.
Stuff your luggage with both comfy hiking shoes and swimming gear and plot a course for Le Moulin de Sournia, a spacious 10-hectare site a short stroll from Sournia village centre. Here in the foothills of the Pyrenees Orientales, you’re well placed to fill your lungs with fresh mountain air as you hike, bike or steer a horse around the area’s lakes, gorges and fortified villages. Limbs suitably stretched, post-exertion beach basking on the Mediterranean coast is about an hour’s drive away.
Legs not up for either activity? Stay put on site to spend time swimming in the outdoor pool, fishing or playing games of badminton, pétanque or table tennis. Entirely devoid of energy? Recline on a sun lounger by the pool while les enfants splash about in the pool, or put them in the capable hands of the kids’ club (high season only) to engross themselves in crafts, games and treasure hunts while you chill out.
However you’ve filled your days, conserve a little energy for the evenings and the entertainment that comes with them: karaoke, movies, discos or bingo nights perhaps. And one mustn’t forget the important business of dinner: the restaurant is on hand to serve up traditional dishes or provide chilled drinks to sip out on the terrace.

Local attractions
This is a fab setting for those who like a hike or a bike trip on their hols. Short, long, easy, challenging – all kinds of routes are easy to find around here. Take a short walk to the bird-shaped Roc Cornut, maybe, or drive for 45 minutes to reach the Gorges de Galamus for scenic hikes or adrenaline-filled canyoning excursions.
For more outdoorsy activities nearby, have a chat with the friendly folks on site for details of local horse riding, caving and canoe trips, some of which may be organised by the site in high season.
Come down from the mountains to hit the Mediterranean coast with a drive of an hour or so. Stop off in Perpignan to see the historic Castillet and Palace of the Kings of Majorca and pick up tasty snacks in the city’s north African quarter, before heading to the resort of Canet-en-Roussillon for watersports or lazing on the nine-kilometre sandy beach.
