It's free, quick and easy!
- Quiet furnished yurts on a small site 20 minutes' drive from beaches
- Château fort de Rambures 15 minutes’ drive; Gamaches five minutes
- Play area, hot tub and cycle hire on site; stargazing from your yurt
A five-minute drive from the town of Gamaches, in the Seine-Maritime department and close to the border with the Somme department, Les Insolites de la Baie is a peaceful site with a small number of well-equipped, real Mongolian yurts painted in cheerful colours by Mongolian artisans.
Surrounded by green countryside, this site is also a 20-minute drive from the Normandy coast, which means you'll be able to spend the morning hiking in the woods and follow that with an afternoon of swimming in the Channel at Le Tréport beach.
But before you go off exploring the local area, a little about your accommodation. You’ll be sleeping in a fully insulated and vibrantly decorated Mongolian yurt with a clear dome for gazing at the star-studded night sky from your comfortable (real) bed. (You can hire bed linen on site.)
Each yurt comes with its own well-equipped kitchenette, including fridge, electric hob and microwave, plus all the crockery and utensils you might need to prepare the family meals. The nearest supermarket is about a kilometre away (a short drive or about 10 minutes on foot), with more choice in Gamaches, where there are also bakeries, pizzerias and assorted eateries.
Have a soak in the hot tub while the kids run around in the playground, or make the most of the on-site cycle hire and explore the nearby area on two wheels. A half-hour bike ride (or a 15-minute drive) takes you to the Forêt Domaniale d’Eu, a vast expanse of beech and oak trees known for its thriving birdlife.

Local attractions
Want to have a go at paddleboarding or windsurfing? The instructors at Base Outdoor Gamaches (five minutes’ drive) will show you the ropes before leaving you free to glide on (and occasionally fall in…) the waters of a large lake close to La Bresle river. If you’d rather stay dry, archery and speedball are also available here.
Dating from the 15th century, Château fort de Rambures (15 minutes) is an impressive structure with distinctive turrets and elegantly appointed rooms. The spectacular grounds include a rose garden and a medieval-inspired area planted with medicinal herbs.
In the northern fringes of the Forêt Domaniale d’Eu, Briga - Archaeological site of the Bois l’Abbé (20 minutes) features the remains of an ancient Gallo-Roman town, including a sanctuary. About a kilometre away is the Jungle Karlostachys Garden, with bamboo groves and colourful collections of rhododendrons and passion flowers.
