General
- Peaceful family-friendly site in a large park by the Meuse river
- A 10-minute walk from the centre of Charleville-Mézières
- Kayak hire, pétanque, café and swimming pool a short walk away
A peaceful parkland setting + shops, restaurants and museums a leisurely 10-minute stroll away in Charleville-Mézières = a most fab location for Camping du Mont Olympe.
There’ll be even more location points notched up here if you’re after some active Ardennes time: being right by on the banks of the Meuse river means easy access to the riverside greenway for walks or cycle rides. Bikes can be hired on site, as can kayaks or pedaloes for those who’d like to take to the water. Horse riding is a couple of kilometres away, and guests seeking more trails to tramp can get to the Ardennes Regional Natural Park with a drive of 15 minutes or so.
If you’ve brought along nippers who love their local park trips, they’ll be in their element here, with plenty of facilities to keep them busy in the surrounds of Mont Olympe Park. A playground and sizeable space for games are on site, and there’s a pétanque court just across the road for all family members to flex their bowling arms. A covered swimming pool with waterslides, water play area and spa area is a couple of minutes’ walk away; special rates are available for guests, so check before you wander off.
Not in the mood to meander into town for eats? The park café caters for guests who’d like to eat in or take away; barbecues are allowed for those who’d prefer to stage an alfresco cookout.

Charleville-Mézières is rather more than just a handy place to source your eats and drinks, so you’ll want to spend at least a day here, taking in the Arthur Rimbaud Museum (in a gorgeous 17th-century water mill on the river), wandering through the Musée de l’Ardenne and passing by Le Grand Marionnettiste to see its hourly automated puppet shows. There are 12 scenes to see in total, but don’t worry if you skip a few: swing by on a Saturday night and settle in with snacks to see the whole show play out.
A little further afield, 20 minutes’ drive takes you to Fort des Ayvelles, to tour the 19th-century fortress both above ground and beneath, on an exploration of the subterranean tunnel system. Once the tiddlers are done with the tunnels, take them to Domaine de Vendresse (35 minutes’ drive) for a huge and varied play area including ziplines, water play area and sandpit, plus well-stocked fishing lakes.
If they’re hankering after a bit more adventure, plot a course to Ardennes Terre d’Aventures amusement park (half an hour away) or Terraltitude adventure park (40 minutes).
