General

  • Quiet and friendly site 25 miles from Roscoff, run by a British couple
  • By Lac du Drennec in a national park; watersports centre close by
  • Beach, lakeside restaurant and bar

What a splendid site. There's pretty much all you need at the serene and mightily scenic lakeside site of Camping Le Drennec in Brittany – 'idyllic', 'little paradise' and 'wonderful' are among the guest accolades here...

If you're arriving from or on your way to L'Angleterre, you'll likely hurrah at the setting too, hidden away in a rural spot but only 45 minutes' drive from Roscoff. Guests of all ilks will be well pleased too to hear of Le Drennec's other fab features: a spectacular lakeside location beside the fishing haven of Lac du Drennec; surroundings in Finistère's Armorique Regional Natural Park; a beach right next door, and a hugely warm and friendly welcome from English owners Belinda and Andrew.

Facilities include a tennis court, a games room with table football and table tennis, and a small shop selling ice creams, snacks and basic provisions. The beach next to the lake has a play area, volleyball net and table tennis; guests can of course also use the sands as a launching point for lake paddles and swims, or amble over to the watersports centre two minutes' walk away for more active lake-based options. Fishing's a popular pastime in the lake too; just make sure you bag a local permit before casting off.

Also next to the lake is the swish Au Lac bar and restaurant, with terrace and accompanying stunning view, plus a changing menu of homemade food. Barbecues are allowed on site too if you'd rather sort supper or breakfast pitchside; bread can be ordered in advance for the following day and supplies picked up in local town Commana, 10 minutes' drive away.

Please note

The grocery shop is open between 01/05 and 24/09.

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

A little piece of paradise. Belinda and Andrew who run the site are very welcoming and friendly. The campsite is basic but clean and tidy. But that’s what we go camping for peace and quiet. The beach at the lake is 2 minutes walk away and the boys loved it there. They managed to do without tv and gaming for 10 days! We would definitely recommend it and would definitely consider returning.

    Disliked:

Nil. The only thing and it’s not a dislike but maybe a more varied supply of leaflets showing where to go on days out.

A perfect quiet break in breathtaking countryside. The lake and pathways are maintained to a high standard whilst not detracting from the natural beauty of the area. The walk around the lake is said to be 6.4 Kms and is easy going taking just over an hour at a fairly casual pace.
The campsite itself is managed by a couple from Derbyshire and they are most welcoming. The grounds are kept in very good order and the facilities are all one might hope for. All in all an excellent site to stay on with water sports and a bar restaurant within a 2 minute walk. No hesitation to recommend this site which opens again on 10th April 2020.

    Disliked:

No dislikes as we visited the site near the end of the season. There was a choice of pitches and few other clients onsite.

Was really nice to stay here as first campsite off the ferry. Lovely peaceful spot next to beautiful lake.

Fairly basic but clean facilities. Everything you need though.

Highlights included swimming at the little lakeside beach and going for a run around the lake (6.5km). Plenty of activities on offer - kayaking / SUP / fishing etc.

Lake is teeming with fish and we spotted an otter.

    Disliked:

Possibly run out of things to do after more than a few days here.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay and the lake.
We are ideally placed for exploring Finistere and the amazing coastline and Breton culture all within an hours drive of camping Le Drennec.

Hi
I am sorry that you seemed not to like our lovely campsite from your scores. Most of our guests love it and many return.
I would just like to answer a few of your scores.
Its great that you liked the location we are in a beautiful spot.
Our prices are much lower than most other sites.I feel they are value for money. On average people pay between 12 and 15 euros per night depending on the size of group.
The price includes showers etc we also have a room with a kettle, microwave, fridge and freezer, highchairs and a few games with table tennis.
We also have a small shop and collect bread orders for our clients every morning.
Our pitches are large and although we might reserve you a number when its busy we give people the opportunity to pick their own pitch if they want to and we have the space. Camping le Drennec does not have wifi We are unable to offer this due to our location.
We will be upgrading our toilets and showers this winter as we realise that they are a bit dated. They do get cleaned 3 times a day and have toilet roll and soap.
Thank you for staying with us we appreciate all of our guests.

Local attractions

Lac du Drennec covers 110 hectares so is a stellar spot for watersports, lakeside walks and wildlife spotting; it's a famed brown and rainbow trout fishing lake too, with about 8,000 rainbow trout of up to 2kg added to the waters each year. Also close by, nearby riding stable can arrange hacks out into the countryside and natural park surrounds around the lake.

For hiking further afield, Belinda and Andrew recommend wanders around the Monts d'Arrée mountain range: a top pick to hike up to is Saint-Michel Chapel on Mont Saint-Michel de Brasparts, accessible from Saint-Rivoal 10 minutes' drive away. The spectacular views from here include the Brittany peat bogs, the lake at Brennilis and countryside all the way to Morlaix Bay: bring your camera along.

The north and west coasts of Brittany are within 30 to 45 minutes' drive.
