General

  • Five minutes' stroll from the pretty town of Pouilly-en-Auxois
  • Easy access to cycling and walking trails and the Burgundy Canal
  • Pool, restaurant, play area, badminton court and games room

Beaches, biking and the Burgundy Canal – get ready for a scenic stay in spectacular French countryside, with sands, cycle trails, hiking and boat trips all around.

This pleasant state of affairs is at Camping Vert Auxois, a five-minute amble from the pretty town of Pouilly-en-Auxois, placed between meadows and the Burgundy Canal in the greenness of the Auxois region. Among the many activities in these parts are walking and cycling the local trails, staking a space on the nearby lakeside beaches, or drifting dreamily on a boat along part of the 242 kilometres of the canal on its north to south route...

Back at base, the heated pool, badminton court, play area, games room and pétanque court can also keep you busy, or you could lurk less actively at the on-site restaurant, which serves local specialities for breakfast and dinner to eat in or take away. A shop sorts supplies and guests can order bread and pastries.

Among the amenities are well kept shower and toilet blocks, disabled facilities, a drying room and a launderette. Free wifi is available at the restaurant.

Little gem for a few nights08/27/2020

Great little campsite - good location and easy to find. We particularly enjoyed the location as we could go on a wonderful family bike ride. Pool is lovely too and the playparks kept the children entertained. The campsite had a really nice feel, lots of cycling groups, including tent campers on bikes. Nice looking restaurant which catered to those without means to cater themselves.

Beautiful views and calm quiet nights.

We stayed as a stopover but would come for a couple of nights next time.

    Disliked:

The welcome was brisk and not desperately friendly; we had a pretty small pitch at the end of the campsite and were concerned that the electric cable would not reach. It did at a stretch, but we were a bit closer to the neighbour than we would have liked for this reason.

A pleasant, traditional French campsite. Great for an A6 stop-off.08/21/2020

The location, great for a stop-over on the way South. It was very popular with cyclists, mostly using the Dordogne canal as a long distance cycling route.
Nice pleasant grassy pitches, separated by rose hedges - a nice touch :).
Staff are friendly - on the whole. I did get the feel that they were a little tourist weary, but only when my French failed me, so that's my fault.
The pool was very popular with my boys 6, and 11. And the grown-ups got in as well.
Cafe was good, if basic, but it is a campsite cafe. We used it a couple of times with no complaints.
Town is lovely, Cafe bars in the town were very French, and had a good vibe.
Toilet shower block was clean and functional.
Super-U very close, just 10 minutes walk.
    Owls at night!
    Recycling.
    Breakfast bread orders.

    Disliked:

Not a lot to do, aside from the canal, and walking the town. There are some sights a short drive away, but we didn't want to use the car again until we left, but that's not the campsites fault.
Service at the campsite cafe bar was rather slow, but again, this is the French way, so it could be down to me not being acclimatised.

It is a small campsite but well worth a stay. The children mingled with others from different countries on the playground and at the swimming pool. The space given was more than adequate and the staff were extremely helpful. The wifi in reception was ok and although we didn't get to use the small on site restaurant, it looked cosy for breakfast or a relaxing drink.
The site is walking distance to the village along a historic canal which is also a short biking trail. There is a very large supermarket in the village, restaurants, and a larger children's playground. There is also a McDonald's in less than 5 mins drive and a nearby tennis centre.

Well tended pitches mostly flat. Facilities in good order and plentiful. Site was quiet and close to town and local super U.

    Disliked:

My main grumble was the chemical toilet facility. You need a big hole to empty it not small slots. I’ll leave you to think about the issue here.

Local attractions

This is such a handsome part of la belle France, with the Burgundy Canal within easy walking distance and the Grosbois-en-Montagne Reservoir within a short drive. Golf, fishing, horse riding, climbing, lake swimming and watersports are in the area: stop off at the tourist office in Pouilly-en-Auxois for heaps of info on what to see and do.

Within easy day trip distance at 25 kilometres is the small town of Saulieu and its 12th-century basilica, and the hills, mountains, woodland and waterfall of Morvan Regional Park, also 25 kilometres away. Closer to home, the hilltop village of Chateauneuf-en-Auxois within eight kilometres has a tiptop 15th-century fortress in the Château de Châteauneuf, surrounded by a medieval settlement.

Visitors to this region also have the popular and spectacular city of Dijon to investigate, where sights to see include its main street Rue de la Liberte with the Palace of the Dukes and Estates of Burgundy; the Museum of Burgundian Life and the Jardin des Sciences, and many 18th-century townhouses and medieval half-timbered homes around its old streets.
