  • In the Livradois-Forez Regional Nature Park
  • A 500-metre stroll from a lake for activities and sunbathing
  • Summer entertainment for all ages
Right in a nature park and an easy 500-metre amble from sunbathing and swimming in a clear blue lake lies Camping Paradis Les Chanterelles, a peaceful, placid and family-friendly site in the handsomely scenic Auvergne department of Puy-de-Dôme. Take dips in the lake or bask on its banks, or get active among the many outdoor options nearby from here like canoeing, cycling, mountain biking and horse riding; marked walking paths around local town Saint-Rémy-sur-Durolle and a hiking trail in Thiers are also around nearby. For days lazing around on site, the Chanterelles team arranges activities for all ages in July and August: sports tournaments, games and archery for kids, and disco, film and barbecue nights for adults. The site also has a playground, a pétanque court, a miniature golf course and a games room with table football and ping pong tables.

Local attractions

After days lounging around the lake, take a trip to the nearby medieval town of Thiers for strolls among its cobbled streets and a peer at its three main religious buildings, the Church of St Genés, the Gothic church of St-Jean and the Abbey of Saint-Symphorien. Thiers is also the place if you're in the market for updating your cutlery drawer, as it's a dominant city worldwide for knife production, with about 70% of all knives in France produced here. Cut along to the 'Valley of the Factories' to see the old workshops and factories still standing on the banks of the Durolle, along with the cutlery museum telling the steely tale of the town's industrial history. The parks, gardens, Vichy Town Opera and Byzantine, Moorish and art deco architecture of the scenic city of Vichy, set on the banks of the Allier, are about 40 kilometres away; within 45 kilometres, have a day trip to the Auvergne region capital Clermont-Ferrand and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the twelfth century Notre-Dame-du-Port. Music, theatre and dance festivals run in Clermont-Ferrand throughout the year.

Liked: Finally a camping on our trip that didn't feel like a cemetery in the evening. Although we could not understand the French animation we were happy there were things going on. Children need to to be able to wander around in the arcade, choose ice creams on the board and go to the disco in the evening and this camping has it. The location was pretty, not too hot not too cold. Friendly and helpful staff

Power optional grass site

Liked: Swimming in the lake, shade from plenty of trees, friendly welcome, flexible about changing the booking by a day.

Disliked: The facilities were not 4 star worthy and much in need of a refurb, poor showers with no temperature control, but worse was the 3 hours of very loud music/entertainment which didn’t finish until 11 - and lots of screaming kids - maybe fun for some but not us! We had camped as far away as possible but it could be heard from a mile away.
