Llwyngwair Manor Holiday Park: Sunny days over the pitches

General

  • Family park in the grounds of a manor house a mile from the coast
  • Fish for trout and salmon on the private site river
  • Woodland, meadows, play areas, bar and TV lounge

Just lush. Take your fishing kit to Llwyngwair Manor Holiday Park near Newport in Pembrokeshire for idle days angling for trout, sea trout and salmon on a stretch of private river.

The park is in the grounds of an old manor house, overlooked by the Preseli Hills and in a green and scenic setting: 'beautiful', 'fantastic' and 'stunning' are a very few of the compliments lavished on Llwyngwair Manor by former guests. It's in a spectacular setting for getting around too, as Newport and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path are a mile away, the famed sands of Fishguard are within 15 minutes' drive, and the site is in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park for weeks' worth of outdoor adventures.

The fishing on site is on the Nevern river flowing peacefully through the grounds; guests just need to bring their own kit and arrange a private fishing permit from the Llwyngwair Manor team (you'll need a valid Environment Agency licence too).

And if you're not up for angling? This lushly scenic park has loads of other stuff to get stuck into: you could meander around the grounds to seek your own serene spot among the woodland, meadows and flowering shrubs… or laze about at the play areas while the kids let loose… or cycle around the grounds… or take the kids paddling and nature spotting in the river.

And after all that? Make your way to the bar for Sky TV, bar meals, a games room, a snooker room and a tennis court. A TV lounge is also available for guests, and as this is a family-focused park an entertainment programme for all ages runs during July and August and on bank holidays.

Please note

Entertainment and activities are available between 01/07 and 31/08.

The toilet facilities are closed until May 17, 2021. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

The shower facilities are closed until May 17, 2021. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

Please note, the bell tent is pitched next to the river. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Absolutely stunning campsite. What more could you want ? Beautiful setting, great location, lovely food and service from the Manor House on site with a spectacular outlook of rolling countryside. The small town of Newport a stones throw away with a variety of eateries, again with superb food and service.
We are already planning our return trip here .

    Disliked:

The only thing would be the additional charge for an awning and not just a pitch price. Obviously COVID restrictions have been complied with which although facilities are limited presently ,it didn’t spoil our experience at all.

The site was very clean, tidy and welcoming, we stayed with 4 children aged 5 to 15 and the site catered for us all, the toilets and showers were spotlessly cleaned regularly. The park catered for younger children and the older children had room to play pool and football. The river was a perfect place for the children to play, and the site was situated within an hour travel from Fishguard, Newquay and many other beautiful places to visit. We can not wait to come back. Vodafone signal is non existent on site (not a bad thing). But WiFi access can be purchased at a reasonable cost. We chose to leave a night early due to storms and the site were very understanding and didn't charge us which was very unexpected.

    Disliked:

Whilst there are local shops for essential supplies 10mins away a shop onsite was missed.

We are lifelong tent campers but decided to come here for our first outing with our converted camper van, based on the great reviews. We chose this site as it was large and we hoped that our teenage boy would find other similar aged friends here. Unfortunately, most of the other families had young children so this didn't really happen. It is a lovely site in a pretty, green and spacious setting overall. The washing facilities are great, there is plentiful hot water for washing up and there is even a fridge/freezer and a kettle for use by campers. There is a river running though the site where young children can play safely, watched by parents from their tents on the riverbank. I would say it is idyllic for youngsters and plenty of people seemed to be having a happy time there. It is a quiet site, despite being large.

    Disliked:

For us, it was a bit too formal with marked out pitches which we felt were quite close together. There was also an unfortunate sewage smell around the site which we did not like. The staff were amazingly understanding about this and when we decided to leave the site early, they gave us a full refund which was very decent of them. If you like staying on the campsite all day and are fairly self contained this could be the ideal site for you, but if you want to explore, then the rural setting means that you will need to drive, as there are no shops within walking distance and the main road is quite busy for cycling and I wouldn't recommend it with kids. You will also need your mosquito spray as there are lots of flying biters around the river in the evening!

Local attractions

You could just roam around within strolling distance of the site and still find loads to keep you gleefully occupied for weeks: Newport, a mile away, has two beaches to explore, a boat club for trips out on the water – and several friendly pubs serving food for afterwards.

You can access the Pembrokeshire Coast Path from Newport too, either east towards St Dogmaels or west towards Pwllgwaelod. The St Dogmaels route is the toughest at 14 miles (the Pwllgwaelod one is seven), but well worth it for sturdy-legged sorts as it passes spectacular sights like Witches Cauldron, Poppit Sands, St Dogmaels Abbey and the Teifi estuary; look out for porpoises and whales in the waters below this last, and seals on the beaches below Cemaes Head.

Even more adventurous types can tackle local coasteering, zorbing and treetop trails; for sightseeing, Skomer Island trips and sea safaris are a top pick in the area (access the island an hour and five minutes' drive south at Martin's Haven), and for families there's Folly Farm and Oakwood Theme Park, both within 50 minutes.

More gently (and grownuply), Newport Links Golf Club is under 10 minutes' drive away.

Must see

  • National Wool Museum (28.3 kilometres)
  • St Davids Cathedral (33.9 kilometres)
  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (36.4 kilometres)

National Trust

  • St David's Visitor Centre and Shop (34.5 kilometres)
