General

  • Spectacularly scenic rural site in Snowdonia National Park
  • Adventure caves, treetop adventure park and watersports nearby
  • Huge 1,600-metre karting circuit

If you're into karting, zoom over to Glan Y Gors Park sharpish: with one of the UK's largest Motor Sports Association-approved karting circuits, this is quite possibly going to be the park of all your petrol-themed dreams.

And apart from the world-class karting, there are plenty more reasons to stick around here for quite some time: treetop adventuring, extreme caving, paintballing, fishing, whitewater rafting and canyoning opps, plus miles of coastline and a whole heap of wild walking trails and lakes that lie around the local area.

This spectacularly scenic site is set in a peaceful rural location just outside Snowdonia National Park and guarantees excellent facilities for a wild camping retreat deep in Conwy countryside; and what Glan Y Gors guests enthuse the most about after their stay here is the team's excellent and friendly customer service and the utterly handsome views from the park's 1,600-metre track.

Another thing that gets a rave review here is the food: to keep you sufficiently fuelled throughout your stay, the GYG team will serve you breakfast, lunch, homemade cream teas and dinner at the on-site eatery – and if you're venturing out for the day, you can pre-order your packed lunches too. For meals off site, there are plenty of country restaurants and pubs close by that your cordial hosts will be more than happy to point you towards.

Among the amenities are a sparklingly clean accessible sanitary block with toilets, hot showers and a baby changing room. Free wifi is available in the café.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Stayed for 4 nights with my daughters, we had a great time. Very friendly staff who went out of their way to be helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Clean facilities and a lovely cafe.

    Disliked:

Only thing I would suggest is maybe putting up a couple of signs for camping field & toilets as we arrived late and we weren't sure if we were in the right place, that really is all I could criticise as otherwise faultless, we'll definitely be back!

    Disliked:

This site is not really geared up for camping. It is really for go carting..No shower block there was 1 shower in ladies loo in reception that closed at 5pm. There was no lighting on the pitch so when it was dark it was pitch black and pot holes. My sister fell down one On the way to the out side loos..No were to wash pots and pan.

The staff went above and beyond to ensure you enjoyed your stay. The campsite was very tidy and the toilets and shower facilities were very clean. It was our first camping trip as a family and my daughter didn't want to come home, neither did our dog. My daughter especially enjoyed her chocolate milkshake from the cafe. The showers were available from 9am until 5pm and the gates locked from 10pm until 8am but when asked the staff happily obliged by opening the gates earlier for us and also allowed us to shower after 5pm or before 9am if we asked. Happy memories made for a stress free outdoor holiday. Exactly what we needed and cAnnot wait to revisit to explore more of gorgeous north wales.

Staff gave a very friendly welcome, nice big open field that was relatively quiet and ideal for our first family camping trip with a 2 & 4 year old. Great facilities, toilets/washroom very clean. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend to others. Cafe looked great but didn't use it on this occasion.

    Disliked:

    Nothing.

Large area to pitch up. Location was fantastic. Friendly local dog named Poppy. Staff were lovely. Cafe clean. Toilets clean. Allowed firepit fires.

    Disliked:

Do not go at end of the month as they have a big rally car competition and it's very noisy. Cafe only had burgers on this day for the rally. Toilets were basic. Showers only open from 9am-5pm. Biggest bug bear were the flies that came out at late afternoon until about 9am and bit the living hell out of me. Bites all over my legs and a swollen eye. Field sloped a lot.

From the manager...

Good Morning,

Thank you kindly for your review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the location of our new Camp Site. Your fire pit looked lovely and cosy and Poppy really enjoyed her time with you. Thank you for welcoming her.

We do provide a full menu in our Cafe for all visitors, I apologise you didn't not get the opportunity to view the menu. We offer early and late opening times for those requiring a shower. All the information was provided to you in our Camping Brochure that you received when signing in at Reception.

We do extremely apologise for the Rally Event. I have notified Pitch Up of our Camping Brochure offered to guest with all the Site Information.

Thank you for your time, it was lovely to meet you and we hope to see you again soon.

Local attractions

From Glan Y Gors you can quite easily explore the hills above Harlech and the lanes over to Llandudno. The site is also just under six miles from Llyn Brenig and Alwen Reservoirs and a mere eight miles from Clocanog Forest, which means that land- and water-based opps including boating, fishing, wildlife watching, cycling and gentle forest and waterside strolls are well sorted. Bala Lake, around 20 minutes' drive away, adds whitewater rafting and sailing to that already extensive list of activity options.

Another popular local attraction is the photogenic village of Betws-y-Coed, less than 12 miles away; stop at Miners' Bridge for a photo opp, watch the tiny trains chug around really small rails at the Conwy Valley Railway Museum and park up for a picnic at Pont-y-Pair Falls. The forests surrounding the village are crisscrossed by a network of walking and mountain biking trails too, so you can make a good day of it with a visit here.

If you're feeling a little more adventurous, head to the world’s biggest inland wave lagoon at Surf Snowdonia, 20 miles away, or try free falling, plummeting, ziplining and swinging at ZipWorld fForest treetop adventure park in Betws-y-Coed. Right next to this are two pretty special underground adventure attractions: Bounce Below, an underground trampoline park in the old slate caverns, and Go Below, where brave contenders journey through a mountain via a series of challenges ranging from zip-lining through caverns to climbing up vertical shafts, boating across a subterranean lake, traversing an abyss and abseiling down to the deepest point in the UK.
