General

  • Award-winning, peaceful and adults-only park
  • Overlooking the Mendip Hills; River Yeo flowing through the grounds
  • A short stroll to Cheddar village and Cheddar Gorge

How is Cheddar Bridge Touring Park gorge-ous? Let its flow of former guests count the wheys: it’s scenic, award-winning and overlooks the Mendip Hills; it’s a former Cheddar in Bloom winner for its viewsome flowers, and it has the River Yeo flowing through it – just look at those pics.

If you’re a peace-loving peep, you might also brie chuffed to know that Cheddar Bridge is firmly for ages 18 and over, so no footballs should bang against your holiday home wall at six in the morning (unless your other half really can’t help it…).

Once you’re nice and rested, it’s a short stroll from the site to comely Cheddar village, simply striking Cheddar Gorge and the Mendips, the limestone hills that are part of a Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Norman Ancient Monument and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Please note

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

Group bookings of 2 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site does not allow motorhomes longer than 7.5 metres.

Strictly no cooking and no candles inside the pods.

  • Liked:

It’s pretty good views. A lot off wild life in the back field where the pods were. But that was due to us being the only ones there at this time. So we basically had a whole field with a stream near by to our selves. As all the other campers were either in the static or touring caravans. It’s peaceful even with the bells from the church going off which becomes a normal background sound. We’ve been to this campsite 5 times now. Twice in the pods, twice in a tent and once in the gypsy caravan. Really enjoy this site highly recommend.

    Disliked:

The toilet block next to pod field closed. Which normally is open

Lovely park, staff were very friendly. You could choose your pitch on arrival, we had a lovely spot next to the river. Nice walk to cheddar village, not far from the site. Toilets and showers were spotlessly clean! Will definitely come back again.

Lovely clean site with good covid precautions. Site wardens and management were friendly and helpful, the wardens were continually working to keep this wonderful site in excellent condition.
We visited Weston, Wells, Burnham, and of course had a walk up and around the gorge.
The Bath Arms serve wonderful food and we also recommend The Almshouse tea shop in Axbridge and Spice Cottage Indian takeaway/restaurant just 5 minutes walk away.
    Cant wait to return soon.

Local attractions

Cheddar Gorge and Caves first, of course: you could spend days in one spot just gaping at the gorge, but there’s also climbing and caving to be had, wandering around the heart-stopping stalactite caves (do stand and gawp here too), and puffing up Jacobs Ladder and to the Lookout Tower – it’s only about 300 steps to the tower top…

Cheddar Bridge Touring Park is roughly halfway between the seaside at Weston-super-Mare and the tiny city of Wells for at least a couple of days’ worth of trips, with Bristol and Glastonbury also within a reasonable drive. Dive into Bath, also nearby, for Roman remains, spas and Jane Austen; the literature, arts and children’s literature festivals are well worth a look too if you’re in town at the right time.

Hikers and twitchers have the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels to keep them occupied, with the Mendips also well known as a climbing and caving centre. Look out for peregrine falcons and marsh harriers in both areas; to find out more about snipes and other feathery sorts around these parts, the RSPB has a reserve at West Sedgemoor.

Savvy shopper sort? Congratulations: Wells has a market every Saturday and Wednesday, and the biggest car boot market in the south-west is on every Sunday at Winchester Farm, only a quarter of a mile from Cheddar Bridge Touring Park: bring an extra suitcase for your goodies.

Must see

  • Cheddar Caves & Gorge (1.1 kilometres)
  • Wookey Hole Caves & Papermill (8.8 kilometres)
  • Ebbor Gorge National Nature Reserve (10.2 kilometres)

National Trust

  • King John's Hunting Lodge (3.4 kilometres)
  • West Pennard Court Barn (18.1 kilometres)
