Happy Campers

General

  • Peaceful secluded park over a 30-acre wildlife haven
  • Free fishing in the site's river and wildlife lakes in season
  • Woodlands walks, pitch and putt, library and boules all available

If there was an award for ‘most aptly named park’, Back of Beyond Touring Park in Dorset might just carry off the gong – and you'd likely give it an accolade or three for activities, location and quiet calm too.

Spread over 30 acres of Dorset woodland, river, heathland and lakes, Back of Beyond meanders over countryside naturally inhabited by a wide variety of wildlife: look out for deer, squirrels, moles, rabbits and the soaring sights of birds including the resident woodpecker. The site is dog friendly too (apart from in one of the wildlife-laden accommodation areas) and there's a 10-acre woodland area set aside especially for canines.

Anglers are welcome to try their luck on the park's lakes and river, but the site staff point out that casting off here means you'll be competing against the local wildlife, so guests are also welcome to use the site's small access part of the River Moors, which can be fished between 15 June and 15 March (bring your own equipment including a current fishing licence). Boules and a five-acre nine-hole pitch and putt course among the squirrels, moles and rabbits; hire the necessary bits and pieces for play on site.

The up-to-date facilities include three heated toilet and shower blocks with power showers and hot water, a private/disabled shower room, hairdryers, indoor and outdoor washing-up areas and a reception with morning bakery, lending library, newspapers, launderette and a shop selling bottled gas and essentials. All amenities are free to use and open 24 hours a day.

Essential supplies (food and beer) can be found at the two excellent pubs within walking distance; supermarkets, restaurants and two caravan and camping centres are within a few minutes by car.

Everything....very happy customers..... Friendly welcome on arrival. Shown to tent pitch in beautiful Emma’s Glade. Great adult site is amongst trees in tranquil setting. Lovely walks on site. Excellent facilities, clean and tidy, great showers, washing up areas etc. Well stocked shop too. Very helpful Reception staff. Takeaway food available some nights...had pizza on Friday eve... better than famous pizza chains and cater for vegans! Friendly bar man Nick made sure everyone was having a good time around fire pits and outdoor heated undercover seating area. Chose the site to explore New Forest, easy access to the beautiful Forest or coast. Nothing too much trouble for staff at this site...will definitely be visiting again 😀

Thank you for the review. We are so glad you had a nice stay.
The pitches are a work in progress and some of the grass ones by this time of the season are slightly tired but we are putting in another 30 hard standing flat pitches this winter. Thanks again.

It was a friendly and efficient check in in line with covid guidelines. We stayed for three nights and found it very peaceful and well maintained site.

Our cocker spaniel thoroughly enjoyed the woods.

The mobile pizza pop up was delicious!

    Disliked:

The only problem we had was with the electric hook up as it kept tripping but they did warn us that they had limited ampage at the hook ups.

The wifi signal wasn't very strong but nothing we couldn't cope with! :)

From the manager...

Thank you. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay.
The hook ups are 10amp.
