Pattacott Farm: Bell tent

General

  • Friendly family-run farm site 20 minutes' drive from Launceston
  • A 15-minute drive from the coast path and Crackington Haven beach
  • Buy fresh eggs and homemade sausages and burgers on site

Farm life… it’s all pony rides, fresh eggs and homemade sausages isn’t it? Well, it is at Pattacott Farm, a friendly family park in Cornwall, 20 minutes’ drive from Launceston.

This is very much an active working farm, keeping an assorted menagerie of rare-breed sheep and pigs, a herd of cattle and free-roaming chickens in the grounds. A couple of ponies also live on site, and the folk that run the place are happy to arrange local lead rein rides for nippers who’d like to have a taster of riding during their stay.

The collection of animals isn’t just for show, of course – they contribute to the range of tasty items available to buy, including eggs for your brekkie and homemade sausages or burgers for your barbecue (which you could serve up in homemade bread from the farm too).

You might fancy a crack at building a campfire as well, and you’re welcome to do so for flame-grilled dinners or to keep you toasty as you gaze up into the starry skies (the heavens often glitter overhead out here as the area is far away from light pollution).

If you’re not planning to live on a diet of burgers alone, extra supplies can be sourced at the shop four miles away or in the supermarkets of Launceston and Bude (20 minutes).

Once essentials are sorted, it’s time to plan for your activities: keep it local with a good rural ramble on the network of footpaths that runs nearby or make the 15-minute jaunt to the coast for more walks, beach days, surfing and legend-learning at Tintagel Castle (25 minutes).

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

    Nice big area and farm.

    Disliked:

Amenities were a bit basic, and on 2 of our nights stay the owners were having some form of domestic which they aired very loudly. In fact you could hear screaming from the house once they’d carried on outside in front of families with kids. Then they’d rock up the next morning like nothing had happened. It was all very strange. Claiming the police were coming round because the owner was fighting and threatening to stab people…. Think the police should have been called. We physically heard him hit her. It’s just not good.

From the manager...

This is nonsense . We were deprived of sleep for a whole night by some selfish visitors who were upsetting other visitors with their loud music and anti social behaviour. Having asked them to please consider others they were singing loudly at 2.45
In the morning and then continued again at 9am .
We had to go out in our PJs to try to reason with them having had text and phone calls from stressed and upset campers . It did cause an upset for us and some of our visitors .
Sadly these things happen occasionally .
We are glad to say that this is the only time this season that we have had to put up this .
We have said no canned music from now on .

Really friendly couple and gorgeous site. Showers hot and but for new mown grass very clean. Lovely sausages and bacon.

    Disliked:

I think extra loos and showers are needed when the site is busy, The queues got very long.
The owners also need to tell those who camp in the bell tent by the gate into the caravan field to not park to the right of their tent. Had to search the site for the owner of the car, then he did it again in the morning !

We stayed in bell tents at Pattacott as a party of four friends over the weekend, visiting from Devon.
The owners couldn't have been more attentive, and were very friendly. We had some great chats with both and it felt like they couldn't do enough to make sure that we were happy and comfortable, without being overbearing. They are also happy to provide fresh milk, homemade bread and a variety of meats as well as logs for the fire bowls, all we had to do was send them a text message and about half an hour later, they came to our tent to drop off the items.
The quality of our accommodation was high, we only needed to bring duvets and pillows. Lots of beautiful blankets, seating and futon beds were provided with the tent.
The site offers a variety of pitch options across well-maintained land and although it was quite busy, it didn't feel like it.
The facilities were excellent, and kept clean and in good working order. The shower pressure was better than my own shower at home(!) and COVID-safe measures were actively in place.
The location was excellent and the site is easily accessible but feels as though it's a hundred miles from anywhere when you are there.
It was so peaceful - apart from when our neighbours decided it was a great idea to have a 1am domestic, but they gave up after about half an hour so it didn't become much of an issue.
The clear night skies were a treat and we spent hours just lying on the grass stargazing before bedding down for the night and then being woken up by a cockerill. No need for an alarm!
Our stay exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be booking again.
We wish we could have stayed longer.
    Thank you so much!

The unprofessional attitude from owners following a domestic dispute, left early as our children were scared, no apology for the shouting and screaming around midnight.
Looking forward a childish rude reply to this review but going by what we had to deal with it ,really wouldn't surprise me.

We only had a one night stay over so no dislikes, maybe new signage on gate as missed it first time.

We are delighted that they enjoyed it . As it happens we have some lovely new signs on order . Just in the hands of the sign company now .

Beautiful views and loved the tour around the farm, even got to help Kev with the calves. Both Kev and Sue were friendly and very chatty. This is a working farm so expect to be woken up by a rather noisy cockerel but he does go back to sleep so you can get a bit more.
Good value for money. Both Kev and Sue are working extremely hard to make this camp site work, just needs a little bit more done to improve it and it will be a lovely site.

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike but things to be aware of, the track onto the site is quite bumpy and narrow so a camper van or a caravan may struggle up the lane. We managed very well with the showers but when there are a lot of people on the site be prepared to wait for the loo.
This is fairly basic so if you are after all mod cons and luxury then probably not for you.
