- Bell tent glamping on a 140-acre farm 10 minutes' walk from Eridge
- A 10-minute drive to Royal Tunbridge Wells; 25 minutes to Hever Castle
- Excellent farm shop on site with lots of local produce
Get set for a fine feast of cracking Kent produce on a break at Gill Wing Farm – this gorgeous little glamping site is part of a 140-acre working farm with a top-notch farm shop on site.
The bell tents here have been set up in a lovely little spot in the orchard, with views over the valley and a firepit to tend while you admire them. It’s all particularly handy for quick escapes from London or elsewhere around the south east as the farm is a mere 10-minute stroll from Eridge station, with direct trains to the capital and pick-ups available if you’ve slightly overdone it on the packing front.
Don’t bother coming laden with food, though – the highlight of this site is the excellent farm shop, which is stocked with the farm’s own free-range produce (eggs for your brekkie and meats for your barbie) alongside fruit, veg, salads, organic cheeses, jams, local honey, fresh bread, pastries…
With all that in mind, it’s most handy that there are plenty of ways to work up an appetite/expend a few calories around this part of the world: the farm is within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it’s simple to find walking routes nearby (with post-walk pints available in the village pub 10 minutes’ walk away).

If you’ve got hikes on the mind, you may like simply to amble out from Eridge and see what you find on the local trails. Once you’ve done that, set forth for lakeside ambles at Bewl Water (20 minutes’ drive) or woodland walks at Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest (25 minutes).
It’s not just the natural surrounds that are mighty pretty though: there are some cracking gardens and country estates to wander around too. Start at the formal gardens and wilder areas at Groombridge Place Estates (five minutes) – it’s also got adventure play areas, a maze and birds of prey to keep younger guests amused.
After that, there are lots more fancy pads to check out: maybe Scotney Castle (20 minutes), Hever Castle (25 minutes) or Sissinghurst Castle Garden (35 minutes)? If you prefer your heritage on the move, take the 10-minute drive to Royal Tunbridge Wells for a ride on the steam-driven Spa Valley Railway.
