  • Well-maintained and peaceful park on the edge of the High Weald area
  • A couple of minutes’ drive from Biddenden and 10 from Tenterden
  • Under 25 minutes’ drive from four golf courses and two castles
Should excursions around the Garden of England be high up on your agenda, select a rural site to suit your roams – like Woodlands Country Park, on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and around half an hour’s drive from the protected landscapes of the Kent Downs. If the location makes you reckon the rambles will be good around here, you’d be right – woodland and country walks are close by (ask the on-site team for top tips on where to traipse), plus paths around pretty places like Bewl Water and the Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest are about 20 minutes by car. You can also dawdle with the dog while on your hol as the site allows canines provided they’re kept on a lead at all times. Already getting excited about what you’re going to eat? Grillable grub is recommended as off-ground barbecues are permitted on the spacious, grassy grounds of the park; if you’re planning on dining out, Biddenden’s handful of restaurants are a few minutes’ drive away. Travel 10 minutes to the larger town of Tenterden for a bigger choice of eateries and to pile up those supermarket supplies. The park’s a convenient place for accessing Kent attractions as well as its amenities: four golf courses are within a 20-minute drive and a couple of castles (Leeds and Sissinghurst) are less than 25 minutes away. This place is also a smart stop-off spot enroute to and from continental shores as Ashford's international railway station is 25 minutes’ drive.

Liked: Cleanliness of site and toilet block.

Disliked: Sometimes the geese at the back on the poultry farm could be quite loud at night, which wasn’t too much of a problem but would have been nice to have known beforehand.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're sorry to hear that the geese from our neighbour's farm caused some noise disturbance. However, we would like to clarify that this situation is beyond our control. We appreciate your feedback and we will look into the matter further. Please note that this is the first time we have received such a complaint from our customers regarding the geese. We hope this clarifies the issue and we assure you that we will do our best to ensure that our customers have a pleasant and peaceful experience with us. Thank you for your understanding.

Unpowered grass site

Liked: The pitches were assigned but they were flexible if we had a preference. We were non electric which meant we could go into the field behind the Lake - This was a nice spot and we were lucky enough to be the only ones in the field! Asides from the occasional dog walker pottering by, we didn't see anyone unless we went into the electric hook up field. Shower & toilet facilities were clean and tidy. Friendly Warden showed us to the area and left us to it.

Disliked: A slightly unattractive pile of mattresses in the corner of the field.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback on your stay, Adam. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us and that our staff provided you with excellent service. Additionally, we are pleased to hear that you found our facilities clean and well-maintained. We hope to see you back next season.

Liked: Quiet, not full of screaming kids and drunk people, like some sites. Very clean and well equipped toilet block. Easy to find

Disliked: No on site shop, but it’s only a few miles either direction to a village with shops and pubs.

From the manager: Hi Chris, thank you so much for leaving your feedback on your stay at Woodlands Country Park; it is very much appreciated, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Disliked: Le prix , c’est très cher pour l’emplacement, et le lieu qui n’a vraiment rien d’extraordinaire. Et pour le prix, on ne pouvait même pas planter la petite tente sinon supplément.!

From the manager: Hi, Our pitches are allocated based on size, which means if your extra tent occupies more space than the pitch you have paid for, then additional charges would be required for another pitch. However, I would appreciate it if you could give me some more information so that I can assist you better. Kind Regard Woodlands Park

Liked: As a single mum travelling with my 10 year old son I am always a little anxious of a new site expecially when I read there is permanent accommodation on site. Tony, site warden lives on site in his caravan so is available 24/7 and is so welcoming, approachable and interested in the campers, ready to offer advice as a local and fellow camper. The residents who live in the adjacent "mobile homes" walk their dogs across the field on leads and those I met welcomed us as part of their community which was lovely. There are 2 camping fields. Both are pretty level with brick built facilities in the main field which appear to be very clean. Showers are warm and good pressure. One private strip wash cubicle. Plenty of toilets, basins and mirrors (in the ladies - i don't know about the men's). Approx 8 washing up sinks under cover outside. Water and waste disposal neatly at the back of the same building which is paved all around. The lake shown in the photo is more of a large pond but has ducks to feed - watch the edge though, especially with younger children. The way the pitches are set there is open space to play outdoor games. Wild blackberries to pick around the edge of the site. Woods to explore. Bus stop at site entrance. The site office has tourist leaflets, jigsaws and a book swap. Unfortunately it didn't open until 9 /9.30 and not every day so we didn't know this until the day we left and went to pay. Postbox at site entrance.

Disliked: Shop has closed so had to leave site for basic items as soon as we had arrived and pitched. Office hours appeared to be random.

From the manager: Hi Emma, Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to know that you and your son had a great time at our site despite your initial concerns. We are glad that Tony, our site warden, made you feel welcome and at ease during your stay. We are also pleased to learn that you found our facilities to be clean and well-maintained. Additionally, we are glad to know that the adjacent park home residents were friendly and welcoming towards you. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the open spaces and nature around the site, including the woods and blackberries. We hope you had a great time feeding the ducks at the small lake on the premises. We apologise for the erratic office hours during your stay. At the time of your visit, we were understaffed, but we have since remedied the situation, and the office is now open at regular times. We regret that the closure of our shop caused you inconvenience upon arrival. However, unfortunately, it was not possible for us to keep the onsite shop open anymore; we have amended this on our Pitchup Page to reflect the closure. Thank you for choosing our site for your trip, and we look forward to welcoming you and your son again soon. Kind Regards Woodlands Park

Liked: Lovely quite site, beautiful warm, very clean toilets and showers.

Disliked: Pitched tents, then discovered husband had trod in dogs mess, which had not been picked up. Despite being loads of space, residents, when walking their dog, would allow them to come right near the tent.

Unpowered grass site

Liked: We booked this site as we were looking for a quick overnight break and a go at camping after a spell away. Emailed them in advance about our arrival times, as it would be outside of office hours, and got a fast reply with instructions on what to do. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly warden, Tony, who gave us our choice of pitches and areas and made some recommendations. We chose a nice little quiet area on lovely level ground and were left to set up without hassle. Tony came by later to check we had got set up and had everything we needed. He told us what wildlife we might be able to spot and really couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Excellent customer service all round and a credit to the site. The facilities were open 24hrs and were kept spotlessly clean. Although the site was quite quiet when we visited it still felt like there was more than enough room for much busier times. The site is very peaceful at night, a lovely atmosphere and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

From the manager: Thank you, Alexander, for taking the time to leave your review. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and the service that was provided prior to and during your stay We have recently made changes to improve our prices and service and it is good to know the changes are working. Local attractions

For an intro to the local countryside, head to the Kent & East Sussex Railway (10 minutes’ drive) for steam train trips to the 14th-century Bodiam Castle and moat. On return, it’s five minutes or so to the Biddenden Vineyards for a few sneaky sips of the region’s homegrown bottles. If the kids are with you, swap an alcohol-centred tour for ambles with the animals at the South of England Rare Breeds Centre (15 minutes). Small sorts and adults alike generally appreciate Kentish visits like Sissinghurst Castle (10 minutes) and Leeds Castle (25 minutes), meanwhile, with the former spot also being home to grand gardens well worth a roam. Keen for a go on the green? You’ll have a fair few golf clubs to choose from hereabouts, including London Beach (five minutes), Chart Hills (five minutes), Weald of Kent (15 minutes) and The Ridge (20 minutes). You’re never far from a fishery around these parts either – try Elphicks (20 minutes) to reel in specimens of all sorts from seven lakes.
