General

  • Peaceful farm site in a quiet corner of Merseyside
  • A 10-minute drive from Southport and 20 minutes from Formby
  • Play area on site; walking distance to restaurants and farm shop

Nelson Brook Farm is a peaceful farm site tucked away in a quiet corner of Merseyside, with flat and well-kept grounds, basic facilities and plenty of local footpaths for walks short or long.

This family-friendly site has a play area with straw bales and chickens where the kids can cavort in a safe environment. Dogs are also welcome here, but please make sure that they're kept on leads at all times (if they want to have a bit more of a run there's a fenced-off dog exercise area on site that guests can use for a small extra charge).

On the facilities front, Nelson Brook Farm has a washing-up area and clean and functional toilets and showers (no charge). Other than that, this site is pretty low on frills, with the focus on outdoor relaxing – as such, you're welcome to bring a barbecue and prep some self-cooked alfresco dinners. Feel free to gather your gang around a cosy campfire and tell stories as the sun goes down, too.

This well-connected site is an easy 10-minute drive from Southport town centre, a popular seaside spot where there's much to see and do. Handily, Nelson Brook Farm is also a 20-minute stroll from two restaurants and an organic farm shop; local takeaways will deliver to site if you don't fancy moving that far.

Lovely, simplistic site with a relaxed atmosphere and very friendly staff.

Located just 5 minutes drive away from any shop you'd need, but far enough to make it rural and quiet. The facilities are very clean and easily accessible.

Really easy-going camping. Perfect little site in my opinion. Could not recommend enough! Camping, as it should be.

Owners were very friendly and helpful. Toilets were very clean. Antibacterial handwash available in the wash room and washing up liquid and bin bags at the washing up area.

    Disliked:

No mens shower. Quite noisy as site near a busy road. Pricey for what it was. Not very well signposted to farm. Also do not agree with cash only especially as there are still covid restrictions.

From the manager...

Thank your for your comments
However
as all know who have been here
1) There’s not only a men’s shower but also a family shower
2) Prices reflect its location near Southport - as bills are also relative to us
3) We take cash or on line bank transfers - as evidenced on our statements
4) Signposts are the max we are allowed in the rural green belt

Nelson Farm is a no frills simple camp site which suits me well. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Plus they had chickens which I loved and we were given eggs.
The shower block was genius, just put into two separate containers (M&F), fairly open so quite good anti covid, plus three good clean toilets and a perfectly good shower. The site was quiet so no queues for the facilities.
Helpful information regarding how to get to places.
We cooked over our camp stove but were offered wood for a fire.

    Disliked:

We had a problem not charging our phones as we were there for two nights and travelling further away, but I'm sure that , if we'd asked, that the owners would have helped us out.
Take ear plugs as the road near by can be busy.

Relaxed about the dogs09/20/2020

    Relaxed about the dogs

    Disliked:

The site was water logged when we arrived.
Grass is mostly nettles dont take your shoes off.
No hot water for washing up or washing hands didn't use the shower.

We stayed one night due to a raging storm that destroyed our tent however: there are major issues with this site. Its new yes but we were wading before the storm hit and the dogs were dancing because of the nettles. We thought the farmer was a little strange when we arrived we had to cross his palm with silver and not tell the wife but we let it go just wanted to enjoy our break

We wrestled with the tent for two hours he watched us on CCTV . Then called us plucky ladies with a free visit next year after he tried to get us to stay in an apartment for £50 extra a night!

I would not recommend this site

From the manager...

I am not going to apologise as there’s nothing to warrant your criticism of our site
The extreme wet and stormy weather had put you in a bad mood
It’s impossible to cut nettles when the fields are flooded wet an extreme amount of water
Hot water is present - you simply have to turn the pressure down - as with all heating systems
This “strange farmer” is popular with 99% of campers
“Cross my palm with silver was a joke“ - sorry you don’t have a sense of humour

Basic facilities were kept clean. Owners very friendly.

    Disliked:

The facilities were extremely basic. There wasn’t hot water available to wash dishes, other than to fill a washing up bowl from a shower.

    No local amenities

Due to the amount of rainfall, the site was extremely boggy in places, which was such a shame, as the owners did everything they could pump out the water.

Unfortunately a large group of men and women in mid 20’s arrived to celebrate a birthday. They kept music blaring until 4am, they left sick in the toilets and they disturbed the whole campsite.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to comment
- groups have now been banned or pay a large anti noise deposit We are a new site but learning fast
- We do have hot water but you have to turn down the flow rate. The system is designed not to waste hot water
- We are probably the camp site with a vast array of amenities- Southport is 5 min drive away

Very friendly owners, one of which helped us move our stuff to the far corner of the field. Great location near southport, lots of space for parking, hot shower was good. Generally fairly quiet and peaceful in the evening. Both me and my brother camping for four nights had a great time there.

    Disliked:

Very loud group on final night of the stay playing music kept us and other tents awake until late, but this was only one night and I don't think the owners were aware of it and apologised for it in the morning. Not really the campsites fault. Also quite expensive for what it is but I guess the demand is there at the moment.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments
We have now taken steps to control large groups - specially the noisy ones
If they want to have birthday parties - this has to be prearranged on specific dates when they don’t disturb others on site
Failing which they will be asked to leave as soon as there’s a disturbance
