  • Family-friendly site in a secluded valley location
  • Close to the M6 and three miles from Tebay
  • Accessible only via an unpaved road; stunning fell views
Low Borrowdale Farm is a secluded Cumbria spot for wild-style camping in the Lake District National Park, with stunning fell views and a peaceful vibe. This hidden gem site is rather remote and is accessible only via an unpaved bridleway that twists and turns through the valley for a mile and a half. (Please note that while you're welcome to carefully drive up to the site, you do so at your own risk. Low-slung vehicles are recommended to park in the council-run car park instead.) Whether you walk, drive or cycle, the views along the way are splendid and look out over Whinfell and Roundthwaite commons (you may spot a few semi-wild ponies along the way). When you finally reach Low Borrowdale Farm there are a further 336 acres of grounds to admire. The pitching area is next to Borrow Beck, a quiet beck where you can take a dip, paddle and play when the weather is fine. The many outdoor activities of the Lake District are the major draw here, of course, but that's not all – if you're after more, you may like to know that the Yorkshire Dales and Westmorland Dales are also close by… This is a no-frills spot with just portable toilets in terms of facilities (so you'll need to bring your own drinking water). If you need a shower, it's a short drive down to Tebay's service stations (north and south), a mile away – just take your soap and towel along and ask at the till. It's also good to know that barbecues are allowed here; if you need supplies, stock up in advance, as it's more than a 20-minute drive to the nearest large supermarket.
