  • Peaceful field site on a family farm with access to tennis court
  • Around 20 minutes’ drive to Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale and Morecambe
  • Dog-friendly site between the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District
Finding it tricky to decide between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District? Weighing up your options between countryside or seaside? Split the difference and choose a stay at Kez’s Campsite, a back-to-basics site on a peaceful farm in South Cumbria. From your pitch surrounded by green fields edged by traditional dry-stone walls and ancient woodland, it’s 20 minutes’ drive north to Kendal – the gateway to the Lake District – and the same distance east for Kirkby Lonsdale and the expanse of the Yorkshire Dales beyond. You can get to see the sea at Morecambe Bay in around 20 minutes too. The site is run as a friendly family affair. Kez or other family members meet guests and will be on hand to help you settle in. Dogs are equally welcome and there’s plenty of space to let them have a run around. You can park up right next to your pitch and it’s fine to set up your raised firepits and barbecues to get some campfire cooking on the go. Pick up local produce at the butcher in the village of Burton-in-Kendal, three minutes’ drive or a 20-minute walk away. Or if you fancy letting someone else do all the hard work, there’s a pub in Burton too and another in Holme, a five-minute drive or half hour’s walk. Both villages also have post offices and general stores should you need them. One night a week, a local pizza van company drops in at the site, which should make sorting dinner even easier.

Being in a quiet spot yet 10 minutes off the M6 gives you great access to all sorts of days out – adventurous or relaxing. As well as all the walking and outdoorsy options in the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, the dramatic landscapes of the Forest of Bowland (30 minutes’ drive) are worth a visit. For wildlife watchers, the teeming nature reserves of Morecambe Bay, including Leighton Moss (15 minutes) and Foulshaw Moss (20 minutes), might give you a glimpse of otters and red deer as well as all sizes of birdlife from bearded tits to marsh harriers and ospreys. If you like your days out to have a competitive edge, try Cartmel Races (30 minutes’ drive), clay pigeon shooting at Lupton (10 minutes) or archery at Greenlands Farm Village (under 10 minutes), which also has farm animals, mini golf and a big indoor play barn.
