Haugh Rigg Farm: Green all around

General

  • On a small farm with no passing traffic
  • Walking and biking routes very close by
  • A few minutes' drive to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Would you like to pitch up among Pickering peace? Farm the folks (and dog) out to Haugh Rigg Farm four miles from town, set in a peaceful and quiet spot at the end of a small track with no passing traffic – you'll probably already know that splendid North Yorkshire scenery is all around too.

Haugh Rigg is a non-working farm that sees peeps escape to it for a peaceful retreat, as it has walking and biking routes very much nearby – again, probably no need to point out the splendid North Yorkshire scenery… It's only a few minutes' drive to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and to yet more hikes and bikes in Dalby Forest.

Amenities include a toilet and shower block, a washing machine, and slides and swings for the kids; a small charge applies for using the showers and the washing machine. Starter packs with wood offcuts, small logs, kindling and firelighters for firepits and barbecues are available to buy on arrival. Please be aware that there are no bins on site, so you'll be asked to take all rubbish away with you.

And finally, as this is a peaceful and hidden-away site, do look at online maps to be sure of where you're going: it's a quiet spot and doesn't shout out its location.

Great little site if your looking for peace and tranquility. Friendly owner and Bo the sheepdog kept our dog happy for the 3 days we were there. Even though the site is quite basic, it was a great experience to get away from it all.

Beautiful place and will definitely be going again in the future.

The fact that children are very welcome and catered for...also as its only a small site it appeared quieter even with children..no rowdy adults. Lovely site not far from pickering but feels like you are in the middle of nowhere.
It was our 4yr old grandsons first taste of camping and he loved every minute.

    Disliked:

As its a small site it only has 2 toilets and 2 showers...but the site was almost full when we visited so could have done with more.
Also I've never been anywhere where you have to bring your rubbish home...the car was packed to the rafters to start with and struggled to get the rubbish in. It won't put us off though..we will definitely go back

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (possibly the busiest steam heritage line in the world, trainspotters) starts from Pickering on its beaut run through the moors to Grosmont.

Haugh Rigg Farm has peeps pitching up in an area with plenty of coastal opps too: Flamingo Land is eight miles away, Helmsley 18 and Scarborough 20; if you're off to the coast you'll also likely like a look around Dracula, James Cook and goth centre Whitby.
