General

  • Well-maintained site with excellent facilities
  • A few miles from the Norfolk coast
  • Sixteen luxury bathrooms on site with individual showers and loos

Have you ever been to the Norfolk coast? Pine-ing to return or to see it for the first time? Come and stay at Pine Cones Caravan and Camping, near King's Lynn inland and Heacham and Hunstanton on the coastline – this is such a royally good region that Queen Liz and her cohorts have a pad at Sandringham just a mile away.

If the Queen were camping, it's a fairly safe bet Liz would like the up to date and excellently kept amenities at Pine Cones too: 16 warm luxury bathrooms, all with their own shower, toilets, basin and storage racks; a roomy, indoors washing-up area with several sinks and plenty of drainer space; and a washing machine and dryer in a separate room to sort out the laundry.

Once the essentials are sorted, send the kids off to the adventure playground to try out the treehouse, rope ladders and high level walkway, and settle down in the picnic area with coffee and eats… there's a coffee machine on site and the well-stocked shop sells a good selection of items including bread, milk, and fresh and frozen food. A selection of outdoor gym equipment is also available for the energetic holidaymaker.

Off site, Pine Cones is about a mile from the nearest pub the Feathers, or trot off to award-winning the Coach and Horses. Both are in nearby Dersingham village, where there's also a supermarket, takeaway and coffee shop dishing up homemade cakes daily.

Great location for us as a short walk to Dersingham to local supermarket and lots of lovely walks.

The facilities are clean and tidy and a great design, liked the fact you have your own space.

Great idea of having a dog agility area where you can let your dog off in safety.

Hot showers with clean facilities. Pleasant walks to local shop and to beach .We had opted for a grass pitch and was away from the hard standing pitches We were lucky to only have small tents both sides of pirch Road noice didn’t bother us Play / picnic are looked nice WiFi good

    Disliked:

Very muddy pitch with grass only on the part where a car could park which meant a lot of mud brought into van Didn’t like the hard standing pitches as vans with awnings seemed so close to eachother Some Dog poo on paths where irresponsible owners had t picked up even though bin provided

Excellent pod in lovely site and Covid-safe10/19/2020

    Everything:

The pod - really impressed by how good this was. We put an air bed on the sofabed and slept brilliantly. It was warm (there’s a heater) and we couldn’t hear the traffic from the main road once inside. The facilities in the pod included small portable electric oven/grill with two electric hobs on top, kettle and toaster and a table with 2 chairs. Elegant strip lighting and plenty of plug sockets. Plus good wifi access inside which we hadn’t expected.

Facilities - small onsite shop in reception for forgotten essentials (plus sweets and booze), shower and toilet were clean (with Radio Norfolk piped in) and in good repair, washing up facilities were really good and the onsite takeaway service did an excellent pie and chips to takeaway. Overall site very quiet (despite being full) particularly in the evenings.

Staff - really helpful and friendly.

Covid - the site felt very safe from this point of view. All measures were explained on arrival and all very reasonable.

Wash rooms/toilets (loved listening to the radio); convenient location (incl. walking distance to Snettisham beach to look at the bird spectacle in the mornings); a great welcome/introduction; dog friendly with great dog walks and facilities around

    Disliked:

Felt more aimed at camper vans than tents but might also be due to the time of the year; very close to noisy road which made it hard to fall asleep in tent (bring earplugs!)

Local attractions

Beaches, historic houses, museums and festivals, tiny villages, market towns and fab family days out are all easily accessible from Pine Cones Caravan and Camping – after a day at Sandringham, but of course, to wave at Liz first...

Within a couple of miles, the deer safaris, farming activities and walking trails of Snettisham Deer Park and the sights and smells of Norfolk Lavender are both good options for a day out; Snettisham has an RSPB reserve too for those itching to twitch.

But as you're probably in west/north Norfolk for the beaches, head to Heacham, Holkham and Hunstanton first, the closest sands to Pine Cones, and then take a trip to Brancaster 11 miles away; the family-friendly and very scenic sands of Sheringham, Cromer and Mundsley are a little further along the coast. (Also, the final scenes of Shakespeare in Love were filmed at Holkham, and all the beaches in these parts are fairly filmworthy, so bring your camera.)

Other excellent options for days out include village hopping and shopping among the scenic sights of Dersingham, Holt, Fakenham, Aylsham and Burnham Market to pick up some local produce, or going along to one of Norfolk's festivals or events: there's usually something going on throughout the year.

Pine Cones is also on the edge the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – bring walking boots, crabbing nets and plenty of room for picnics.

Must see
