  • Shropshire farm site on the Offa's Dyke Path and by the River Teme
  • A 10-minute drive to the Spaceguard Centre; 40 minutes to Elan Valley
  • Stroll along the riverbank to Knighton in 20 minutes
Just next to the Offa’s Dyke Path and on the banks of the River Teme, Panpwnton Farm is about as close to Wales as it’s possible to be without actually being in Wales (although as the border’s just a couple of hundred metres away you can easily flit between the two nations as you wish…) That location makes this a prime pick for anyone making their way along the entirety of the Offa’s Dyke Path – but there’s plenty of walking (and cycling too) to be done nearby for folk who aren’t up for such long-distance ventures. The farm is in the southern stretches of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (10 minutes' drive from Llanfair Waterdine), where lots of scenic trails await, and you can also try out shorter stretches of Glyndwr’s Way, another major trail on the Welsh side of the border. There’s pretty rural scenery all around the farm, but you’ll not be stranded miles from civilisation – in fact it’s only about a mile to the small town of Knighton for pubs, eateries, shops and a railway station. You can drive down there in five minutes or so, but the favoured way to travel is to stroll along the riverbank for 20 minutes. Barbecues are permitted on site, so stock up on goodies for the grill while you’re in town. A washing-up area is on hand for cleaning up afterwards, and there are hot showers to help you do the same for yourself. There’s no wifi on site, but most guests get decent phone signal, and there are charging facilities to make sure you’ve got plenty of juice to plan your adventures.

Unpowered grass tent, caravan or trailer tent site

Liked: This is a beautiful spot! The views are stunning. I camped next to the river where there were Dippers and Kingfishers flitting about and Red Kites flying overhead.

Disliked: Three or four trains ran through and woke me up each night.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked: Spot on. Roxy was very accommodating after the field being far too wet to get any of our vans on to she did her best for us and let us pitch on the farm grounds which we were more than happy with. Very happy with the site, fantastic location and good facilities. Couldn’t ask for any more. 5* Good little town of Knighton nearby and fantastic walking route all around the hillside to the viaduct a few miles away.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked: Everything........... On a working sheep farm so thats a win for me and I even got to feed the lambs (with all the 5 year olds :) ) Roxy and Will run this place incredibly with their 2 small boys - so much respect for them. Location was gorgeous with the mountains, forests and rivers oh and the sheep :) The facilities were lovely with great warm showers. Kitchen area a bonus with microwave, kettle, fridge and freezer etc we didnt use any of this but always good to know its there if needed. 10/15 minute walk to the local pub.

Disliked: NOTHING........... we loved it

Liked: Great stay - Roxy was so friendly and helpful. Kids loved playing in the field and we have plans to return again in the summer! Nice and peaceful - welcoming to all groups, didn’t feel at all out of place with a going family as you sometimes can! Thank you 😊

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked: Friendly and helpful owner, grass site was very wet, so we parked the motorhome in the farmyard. Extensive site that would be glorious in the summer months. Very clean washroom facilities.

Disliked: Narrow road to site.

Unpowered grass tent, caravan or trailer tent site

Liked: The site is beautiful, right on the river teme , looking up at Pampnwton Hill, 25 minutes walk from Knighton. Roxy was a fantastic host, advising where to pitch. Due to wet conditions even ferried all our camping kit down to our pitch. (three journeys , didn’t realise how much kit fits into the back of a car). The newly renovated shower block is brilliant, providing beautiful hot showers, washing up facilities and freezer/fridges. As well as charging points and a kettle. We will be returning and have also give our camping family and friends the thumbs up on this great site . Highly recommended.

Disliked: English weather lol

Local attractions

As you’ll probably be skipping about either side of Offa’s Dyke, it makes sense to start your trip with a visit to the Offa’s Dyke centre (five minutes’ drive) to find out about the ancient landmark. For other walking trails, head to the Elan Valley or Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd (both 40 minutes). For a closer look at the natural world, plan trips to the Small Breeds Farm Park and Owl Centre (25 minutes) or stop by at the Red Kite Feeding Station (40 minutes) to see these splendid beasts in flight. The Spaceguard Centre observatory (10 minutes) is also worth a visit if you’d like to find out more about the skies overhead. Castle outings are part of the landscape for trips here too – perhaps to the impressive 13th-century fortifications of Stokesay Castle (half an hour) or the art-filled rooms and colourful gardens of Powis Castle and Garden (50 minutes). If you’d rather skip straight to the garden strolls, try Hergest Croft Gardens (25 minutes).
