Haughton Park House Farm: Walks on the doorstep

General

  • Peaceful farm site on the banks of the River Meden
  • Sherwood Forest and Clumber Park within 20 minutes' drive
  • Fishing, farm tours and animal encounters available on site

Haughton Park House Farm is a family-run dairy farm in north Nottinghamshire, with access to fishing and canoeing on the River Meden on site.

There are some splendid rural views from this peaceful site, and more to be had out in the surrounding area – which you can explore easily on walking routes (of varying difficulties) that leave from directly outside the farm. A most rewarding walk leads to the local farm shop, a mile away, where you can pick up all the bits you need for a barbecue back at your pitch. A pick-your-own farm is also about a mile away for fresh soft fruit to follow your dinner (in season).

Breakfast is a little closer to hand: purchase fresh chicken, duck and goose eggs from the farm’s honesty box and get cooking.

Fancy more of a taste of farm life? Book in for activities on site: kids’ crafts, animal feeding sessions, farm tours and animal encounters are all on the menu, and you can also book slots to visit and feed the herd of reindeer. When you’re not hanging out with the animals, younger kids can be kept amused at the play area.

This may be a wholly rural spot but it’s also one that’s very well connected: the farm is easily accessed from the A614 and A1 just between Sheffield and Nottingham, and therefore possibly handy as a stopover point on longer journeys. That location also means plenty of day trips are nearby, including outings to the likes of Chatsworth, Sherwood Forest and Creswell Crags.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Entertainment and activities are available between 10/07 and 29/08.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Peaceful location, by a river which is good for paddling/swimming. I read other reviews about the farm tour to feed the animals which is what attracted me to book the site. Definitely agree with the reviews - our kids loved it and we all learnt something! Highly recommended! Great new shower room, lots of fun things for the kids to do nearby.

We absolutely loved our stay here. Jennie couldn't have been more welcoming, she met us when we arrived, talked us through everything and told us about the different things we could do there with our 2 children (2 and 4).
I was worried when I saw there were portaloos but they were honestly the cleanest I've ever seen. The facilities were great.
There is a stream you can paddle in next to the field which we all loved.
The farm tour was fantastic, me and my husband got as much out of it as the kids did. Jennie and Becky were lovely and answered all our questions and we're so great with the kids!
It was our first camping trip with the kids and we definitely chose the right place for it!

It's a lovely quiet camping area, with a very friendly camp/farm owner who was always on hand to chat and keep in touch with the people staying. They also did some activities like a farm tour and animal feeding and rafting on the river.
When we stayed there were multiple other families with young children meaning the kids got lots of interaction and the site wound down nicely in the evenings so no noise for people sleeping.

Very friendly and helpful staff, with additional space for kite boarding given in an adjacent field. Direct river access and a level set of well spaced pitches made it a great stay, with fresh eggs available on site as well.

We were looking to get last minute(made booking within 24 hours prior to arrival) break fairly local to us, but still to feel like got away.
Jenny kindly accommodated our late arrival and met us to take us down to the campsite.
It was field by the river with portable toilets ( no smell, very clean and well maintained in this heatwave), running water to wash up. There was also block for bbqs (single use ones provided at extra cost), washing up liquid and even first aid kit. A nice little touch was fresh eggs from the farm next door.
Shower with hot water was available few minutes walk away with even shampoo and conditioner available ( hopefully it wasn’t left there by another campers).
We took advantage of going on the farm tour the following day and it was absolutely brilliant- where else can you feed reindeers and goats? I appreciate it might be mainly for children, but we also learned new things about farming and enjoyed being able to cuddle animals.
The local farm shop less than 5 minute drive away from the campsite is definitely an added value. The choice of ice cream flavours there is mind blowing. We also booked burgers kit (I must admit that this has been one of the best burgers I had In a very long time) from there for later to cook them back at the campsite, but the farm shop offers ready food as well( might be that need to prebook).
Another great place to visit around this campsite is pick your own farm who’s is no more than 5 minutes drive away. Plenty of strawberries to pick in the middle of July.
Nice surprise was the sunflower field at full bloom.
Alltogether the campsite location is fantastic with so many other places being around can keep you busy for 2 night camping trip.
The service we got from everyone who we met was top level. Thank you very much I’m sure we will be back to explore the local area more.

We had a lovely time at Haughton Park House Farm. Jennie and Beccy were both brilliant. I advice anyone with children (or with out!) to take part in the farm tour activity, it was amazing and for the same experience elsewhere it would cost a small fortune! The site was very family orientated, the family shower room was lovely and had everything you could need! I managed to shower with two toddlers in the room due to the amazing set up. In the shower room they had a small table along with colouring pencils and colouring books along with box of toiletries incase you had forgotten anything! There’s only one shower room so I imagine during busier times you may have to wait but we didn’t have to wait once during our stay. We can’t wait to come back!

    Disliked:

There were a lot of nettles in the field and the children got stung A LOT!

We booked this site last minute for a night away camping with the girls for their first time. We really enjoyed it! Jennie was very helpful and attentive to anything we needed.
Toilets are spacious and clean with bbq blocks and fresh eggs available to buy. We had a lovely time and would like to return one day.

    Disliked:

The only downside was the field had a few nettles so when the girls were running and playing they kept getting nettled.
Upon booking the pitch it mentioned animal and farm experience which we would of loved to do when we arrived at 1pm, unfortunately the experience was at 11 so we missed it and couldn’t attend the following day as we had plans already. An option to pre book these before arrival would of been good but we still had a fab time.
