Hunters Lodge Fishery: View from the bell tent

General

  • Family-run glampsite in the peaceful village of Elsham
  • A 10-minute drive from Brigg and 15 minutes from Humber Bridge
  • Fishing lakes, fishing shop, café and scenic views

Hide away in a handsome bell tent at Hunters Lodge Fishery, a spacious glampsite to the north of the Lincolnshire Wolds in the pretty village of Elsham.

Attracted here by the idea of angling? Perfecto: this place is a family-run business that has four lakes for specimen carp or coarse fishing an easy five minutes’ amble from your accommodation. You’re most welcome to book a peg on the specimen lakes to cast off from during your stay – just let the Hunters Lodge team know using the contact details in your booking confirmation email.

The site and lakes are in a peaceful setting with pretty views, 15 minutes’ drive from the nature reserves of Humber Bridge and within half an hour of the Lincolnshire coast at Cleethorpes and Grimsby. Days out in Lincoln and Hull are to be had too (within 50 minutes), as well as hikes along the famed Viking Way and shopping in the many nearby market towns.

Grab food out at one of these spots or eat on site at the café selling breakfast, snacks, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and homemade scones. The park has a fishing shop stocked with angling kit and bait as a handy extra, and for the essentials a shower and toilet are a few minutes’ walk away from the bell tent. (Please bring a torch as there’s no artificial light around the grounds at night.)

To keep the place serene, cars must be parked in the designated parking area five minutes’ walk from the accommodation. The team will lend a hand at the start and end of your stay to transfer all your kit.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

The park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Group bookings of 3 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

We had a fantastic time here, owners very helpful and friendly. My 6 year old granddaughter did not want to leave (neither did we), booked an extra night we had enjoyed the peace and quiet that much .It felt safe and secure and she had lots of fun in her "wooden house" . Such a nice view to wake up to in the morning. Shower room clean and plenty of supplies in the Cogsworth. The little cafe near the site entrance was also good and not overpriced. We will definitely be back 😁.

    Everything!!
Had a 2 night stay with my partner and 3 kids aged 6,13 and 14. I booked to introduce my son to fishing and having the accommodation thought it would be the ideal opportunity,, he loved it and has now got the fishing bug and can not wait to return. My 6 year old (Poppy) fell in love with the place and the caravan in which we stayed, so much so she wants to return for her birthday and told everyone she will be back. So Mummy has booked a return trip for 3 nights 😁 The caravan has Everything you need for basic cooking, the double bed was sooo comfy best nights sleep I've had in a long time😁
The seating areas are quickly turned into a double and a single bed,all lovely and clean the bedding was great quality with lovely soft pillows😁 The outside area is great to sit and eat alfresco (if not fishing 😀)with a barbecue and picnic bench. The shower/toilet facilities where spotlessly clean and in great location to fishing/caravan. The on site cafe is great and a good selection available,, the bacon buns where great!! Kept me going half the day.
All good 👌👍😁 we will return in August for the birthday girl.

Lovely location, right in the village of Elsham but feels really remote.

Beautiful scenery -- we stayed in the caravan, which is by the car park, but a walk up the steep hill to where the bell tents are was worthwhile for the gorgeous views.

Family-run by lovely, responsive hosts. Anything we needed or questions we had were sorted quickly.

Caravan has an awning with fairy lights, a BBQ and picnic table outside with a bit of grass that isn't really used for anything else, so there's plenty of space for everyone (2 adults and 2 young children, in our case) to relax and play. Inside was comfy and well-kitted out for basic cooking, etc. There's a toilet block nearby with a shower but the caravan has a chemical toilet if needed too - really useful for kids and late night needs!

Beds were really comfy and warm, lots of pillows and super squishy duvets.

Shower facilities were really nice and the whole place was spotlessly clean.

Mostly used by fishermen who are by and large a quiet bunch, so really peaceful.

There's a really lovely little playground 5 minutes' walk away in the village if you have little ones with you, too.

    Disliked:

Nothing that would prevent us returning; had a great time and can't really fault it for our stay! But some possible considerations for other readers - the walk up to the bell tents is really steep; the hosts drive people up with their stuff but if you're planning to be on and off the site a lot it could get tiring. The views up there are stunning, though!

There isn't much of anything in Elsham; Brigg is about 10 minutes' drive away and has all the shops you'll need, and Grimsby/Scunthorpe/Cleethorpes etc are an easy drive, but it's definitely a site you need a car for.

The place is mainly a fishery so the campsite is small and amenities minimal compared to some places; it's somewhere you'll go for the peaceful vibe, not nonstop activities. The lakes might be a consideration with very young children if staying in the tourer -- obviously you have to keep a very close eye on them -- but the tents are quite a way from the water.

What a great find. This small site was everything we hoped for, amazing views and peaceful location away from the lakes and any buildings. Well placed at the top of the hill to maximise the views and the tents are spaced out unlike most sites. We were the only campers on our 2 night stay so our children and dog were able to get plenty of exercise without worrying about disturbing anyone. The bell tents are beautifully set up with pretty much everything you need including a large bottle of water and some tea, coffee, sugar and uht milk. We did all of our cooking on the gas stove provided although the pan provided was small so next time I would take a bigger one. The owners were very friendly and responded to emails quickly with any questions we had. Breakfast from the cafe before setting off was well worth it. I look forward to returning!

I booked a 2 night stay in the Cogsworth tent for my boyfriend's birthday - the weather was less than desirable but our stay was lovely! The hosts were lovely, really friendly and they transport your belongings to and from the tent upon arrival/departure. The tent was quite big inside, with all the utensils we needed. Luckily we had extra blankets as the temperature dropped quite low on a night. There is a steep hill to get to the tent but the view is 1000% worth it! We had access to a chemical toilet near to the tent or there is a private toilet/shower room a 5/10 min walk away which was immaculate. It's in a stunning location and very quiet which is what we wanted. There's plenty to see and do around the area as well - On our first night we ate out at a local Indian, Saturday we explored Normanby Hall Country Park & did GoApe, Sunday morning we went go karting. Unfortunately we didn't get much time to wander around or go on any walks but if we stayed longer we would've loved to do so. We would definitely recommend staying here.

    Disliked:

The only dislike was that the wood for the fire was soaking wet - we only managed to get a fire lit on Sunday morning before leaving. It would be helpful if it was kept sheltered in poor weather.
