Plenty of space

General

  • Peaceful woodland park 10 minutes' drive from Wokingham centre
  • An hour's drive from Oxford, the New Forest and the south coast
  • Next door to a lake and country park for fishing and walks

Settle in for a stay at Wokingham’s California Chalet and Touring Park and you’ll be in good historical company: the park’s location was once part of Windsor Forest and a fave hunting ground of the Tudor royals.

These days the five-acre site has been set up as a peaceful woodland park, with heaps of space for a quiet family break. Hunting is long gone, but neighbouring Longmoor Lake is a fab place for a spot of fishing: carp, pike, tench, roach and perch are up for grabs if you’ve got the relevant rod licence.

Also just next door is California Country Park, a 100-acre park with wildlife trails, a playground, picnic areas, paddling pool and a cosy café for daytime eats. For further foodie needs, a pub, chip shop and supermarket are a five-minute drive away.

If you’re looking to venture a little further afield, Wokingham’s well placed for exploring the attractions of Berkshire and beyond – with a drive of an hour or so you can be wandering around Oxford, spotting ponies in the New Forest or taking in the sea air on the south coast.

Facilities on site are kept minimal to preserve the peaceful vibe, but all the essentials are in place: a launderette, washing-up area and toilet block with accessible facilities, hot showers and useful bits and bobs like razor points.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Fishing is currently not possible onsite until July, due to the fish spawning.

So quiet, tidy and the park next door is beautiful. Massive pitches and felt really private. Really helpful that you can arrive at anytime and clearly laid out which pitch is yours. Didn’t use facilities as Covid free. Lovely walk and coffee shop at the park and a super fish n chips on the way in from Finch. We will definitely be coming again even though it’s only 8 miles from home we felt like we had a full on holiday. Loved it!

    Disliked:

The barrier only goes up with a key fob, which I had just put through the letterbox on our departure!! Another camper camp to our rescue. A warning sign would be helpful.

We loved our stay at california chalet park, we stayed 1 night in the 4 person pod and had a great time, the pod was probably too insulated so stayed really warm all night but cant win with that. The park itself was lovely and clean, well spaced out and reminded us of campsites abroad from the moment we drove in. We have already reccomended to our friends and family and will book again.

A well maintained site. Friendly staff. Large pitches with gravel bases. A difficult time for touring sites- COVID. A nearby lake is a bonus- a good walk of about 2 miles for those inclined. A cafe was very popular during our stay. Wokingham is worth a visit, but the traffic can be a nightmare. We will return to this site at some future date.
