- Spacious and peaceful Azores site on the north coast of Terceira
- Biscoitos natural pools and wine museum 10 minutes' walk away
- Snack bar on site serving breakfasts and light meals
Up on the north coast of Terceira Island, the village of Biscoitos is a fabulous place to have a quiet break on the third-largest of the islands of the Azores. Around 25 minutes' drive/an hour’s bus ride from the ferry port at Praia da Vitória, it’s big enough for a few restaurants, bakeries and small shops, but quiet enough for a peaceful couple of days by the coast.
Surrounded by greenery and about five minutes’ walk from the coast is the village’s North Coast Camping, a spacious and laidback place for a peaceful break. Biscoitos is well known for its natural pools and its wine production, and you’ll be well placed to experience both when you stay here – the pools are a short walk away and there are several wineries and wine shops close by too.
While you’re here you’ll also be able to explore the beaches, birdwatching areas and walking trails along the coast, or head a little way inland to hike to waterfalls, caves and lakes. And, given the island’s compact size, you won’t be far from anything else you’d like to check out while you’re here – even the furthest corner of the island is only about half an hour’s drive away.
The site itself is a friendly place (families, couples, groups and solo travellers are all welcome here), and a well-equipped one too. Guests have access to wifi, a barbecue area, a washing-up area and bathrooms with toilets and showers, and there’s also a snack bar that’s open from 9am to 10pm each day serving breakfasts and light meals.

Local attractions
Start local, with a short stroll (10 minutes' walk) to the Biscoitos natural pools, where you can swim or snorkel in fabulously clear waters (just watch out for scratches from the rocks – they’re made of lava so they’re sometimes pretty sharp…) Meanwhile, a 10-minute walk in the other direction takes you to the Wine Museum to learn about the local drops you’re (probably) about to drink while you're here.
The island is home to some great hiking trails, so get your boots at the ready – the Black Mysteries Trail (10 minutes' drive) is particularly recommended, but there are lots of lovely options around the nature reserves, lakes and hills of the interior, or along the craggy coastline.
For a bit of town time, head across the island to Angra do Heroísmo (25 minutes), a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its well-preserved and colourful historic centre. While you're there, visit the cathedral, the Duke Of Terceira Garden and the numerous churches.
